Do you also believe that all Christians are guilty of spreading lies? ![]()

![]() Here's another way to look at that question; I certainly don't believe that any Christian, Mormon, JW or any other type, accepts reality. In that sense you could say that I believe what they say are lies. But are they intentionally lying like a kid who has taken a cookie and says he didn't? No. They believe what they say is the truth, so from their perspective they are speaking the truth. In that context they are not lying. Yet they fail to appreciate that their context is not a universal context. So they are speaking the truth within their context, their belief system. But to me, outside that system and context, their statements are not accurate or "truthful". | Paladin Location: Narnia Posts: 4,277 | Whaddaya want? I think the bike guys came in way too cocky and left with their tails between their legs. I question the method of assailing random strangers in public places with arrogance, leaflets, and a cue card as a viable and productive method of evangelism. I wonder why there was a camera there. I don't care for the style of debate of any of the participants. Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. Unknown to them, he was articulate, intelligent and every bit as devout to his subscribed believe as they were. Probably more so. I am sure he was somewhat offended by people approaching him and questioning his faith. Its insulting and presumptuous.

Religion is a tool of controlling people, that is all. I have no problem with people practicing their belief system as individuals, but they have some gall to walk around spreading lies and trying to win more sheep for their sheperd only to appease their own selfish goals. It is a good point. I think the Muslims are worse in that regard than the Mormons. At least you can draw a picture of Joseph Smith. But I just meant that the shouting and interrupting kinda gets on my nerves. I didn't have a problem with the content.I agree that what they did was insulting and presumptuous. I would also be insulted if my perceived race/weight/attractiveness/gender were a factor that made me a mark. As if these things were an indicator of level of intelligence or gullibility. | Experienced! Location: Albuquerque NM Posts: 425 | My impression of the video is that I strongly suspect it was staged. 1. I have never encountered Mormon missionaries who pushed the Book of Mormon before they had a person fully engaged and cooperating in a conversation. 2. The black man was addressing the camera as much as he was addressing the two 'missionaries' while the two 'missionaries' never glanced at it and were seemingly oblivious to its presence. Also, what is the odds that a camera will be running on the street or in a parking lot and be in perfect position to record a 'chance encounter'? 3. Mormon missionaries are generally young, at most early 20s, and may not be stellar Bible scholars, but they don't go out with so little information that they are caught flat footed as these two appear to be and they are trained to steer the conversation into an easy-to-discuss area. They didn't even attempt to do that. " I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it." -- Benjamin Franklin, 1776 |
