I don't see the problem with having the iranian president speak at an american university...america is based on freedom of speech and information.

About the comment about the lack of gays in Iran, does anyone have a broader context for it?

I realize it's probably not in this context but when I saw it pop up on a news ticker on Google I got an image of two guys fighting and then the other blurting out "At least I'm not gay like your mom is!"

What makes a man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?

I didn't get to hear the entire visit to Columbia live, but from what I did hear, and from the transcript, it's clear why there was an attempt to silence him. I certainly don't agree with all he had to say, but he is clearly far and away a much better speaker than bush.
Not exactly high praise... my 2 year old is a better speaker, writer, and thinker than the President. If he would poop in the potty he would be a better President.

I'm wondering how many of you actually bothered to view the introduction of Ahmadinejad by Dean Coatsworth? I guess you are unaware that allowing him to speak was not an admission that his views were right, but rather a means to show the idiocy of his position. I thought that the the Dean's introduction was actually rather insulting, although true. He asked questions that weren't answered, as did the audience. Imanutjob actually made himself look like a fool. Why do you oppose an opportunity for him to do so? Did you think that he was going to offer some sort of rational position that would sway the masses to support Islamic fundamentalistic terrorism? Give me a break!

The point is that he was allowed to speak and then be subjected to questioning (one of the conditions of his being allowed to speak) was to reveal his irrationality and his inability to answer rational questions. He revealed himself as a fool. I wonder why many of you find that to be problem? Are you afraid that the audience at Columbia was going to be swayed?

Here it is. "There are no homosexuals in Iran", the man said on Monday.

Ahmadinejad speaks; outrage and controversy follow - CNN.com

Here's my question: How does he know? Are there no gays in Iran because they are rounded up and stoned to death?

I watched it, and found it insulting, and unbecoming a man in that position, especially after mouthing words of how he valued free speech and thought it could withstand such challenges.

Why try to introduce the man and taint it, instead of letting him simply be asked questions, and give answers?

In what ways, in your opinion?

The question about why isn't Israel in Europe, or Germany more accurately, is a valid question.

The question about Nuclear Power being an equal right among sovereign nations is a valid question.

What parts, other than the homosexual remark, made him look like a fool? (that was a pretty sad remark about homosexuals, and that in my opinion did make him look like quite the fool.)

Don't you think that's an obvious denial of reality? ( At the very least the equivalent of a political attempt at denial. )

Well...we don't know, do we? Maybe Iran exterminates all homosexuals.

I watched some of his interview on 60 minutes and I must say that he made me sick. I did not see the eloquent speaker that some of you have mentioned. He danced his way around every question without ever giving a real answer. It was very clear to me that he was a sick man but some of you seem to have been fooled by his charisma, which is unfortunate. His roundabout answers leave no doubt in my mind that he is pursuing a nuclear bomb. Anyone that tries to rationalize that a nation that murders homosexuals has the right to pursue the ability to annihilate millions of people in an instant is an absolute lunatic.

YouTube - Sure we'd invite Hitler to speak, says Columbia dean
Watch the interview with the Colombia University's dean.

This is the crap they teach in the Ivy leagues. Amenjiahd will not engage in a debate, all he will do is spread his propaganda. They would invite Hitler! Something is seriously wrong these people.
They need to be a whole lot pickier on whom they choose to speak. Get somebody a little more upbeat might be nice.

They would invite Hitler, they say. That's like inviting the devil. "What for" would anyone need to hear what he has to say? He actually has nothing to say. Same goes for this Iranian guy. I'd leave the event and go have a coke.

How much did they pay this guy? That's where I have another problem. Paying someone to spew propaganda. Nice way to go. And these are supposed to be smart people that run these universities?

Why don't you tell them that? I'm sure they'll listen to you, O High and Mighty One.

Please. Hitler may have done terrible things, but neither he nor anyone else in this world can realistically be considered equivalent to "the devil".

You're free to not attend.

On the other hand, why do you wish to prevent others, who do want to listen to what he has to say, from doing so?

Lolwut?

Keep in mind that there is still such a thing as private property in this country. A private institution like Columbia can invite anyone who it wants to come to the university and speak. What bothers me more is your dictatorial attitude towards exercising such freedom when it leads to something that you don't personally like.

Never said they couldn't invite this guy, just questioned the intelligence behind it. We are talking about many very young minds that are still quite impressionable. I would bet Hitler appealed to the youth a lot in his day.

Comparing Hitler and the devil was pretty accurate if you ask me. There are plenty pf people who have been the devil incarnate.

I didn't see anything dictatorial in what I said. I was questioning this universities intelligence in making such a move. Seems like it would be dangerous to have him there, and cost the taxpayers extra bucks for police protection. Indeed, private property. Cough up the money for security if you want these jokers on your private property.

Funny how now the elders don't want to hear much out of the mouths of babes, compared to yesteryear.(when they were the babes)

Many people thought Achmadinejad posed serious issues which show clearly, why there are problems that CAN be resolved, but aren't.

He didn't answer all questions, but he wasn't obligated to, either. He has national security to worry about, just as Bush does.
