Funny.... I figured our relations were pretty good back in the 30's when the US contemplated this originally.

The interesting thing about our invasion plan was it was "at the first signs of a possible U.S. invasion." ~ Ours was planned for defense, but the US plan was straight out for total control and attempted domination of the country.

All countries develop war plans. The USA had a plan to fight the UK and France. After WW II, America discovered the pre-WW I German war plans to fight the USA. The USA had a war plan to fight Japan and that was the basis of what it used after 12/7/41.

It's good for slowing down an offense into the country, which may explain why our settlements in our country span across the border since we've been invaded in the past.

Plus having plenty of land mass to fall back on, which delves into a much colder climate the further you go, with sparatic villages, towns outposts, and bases as you go, would echo a similar battle as the Germans vs. Soviets..... but whether anybody learns from past history will remain to be seen.

US Population: 301,139,947 (July 2007 est.)

Canadian Population: 33,390,141 (July 2007 est.)

Iraqi Population: 27,499,638 (July 2007 est.)

Iraq has less people and much more cruder technology then us, and you guys are having plenty of issues with them..... I don't feel the numbers really matter when it comes to population and a war.

We have a much easier access to our allies then your country does, along with many potiential sympathizer countries we have assisted in the past without request of some kind of payback.

As it goes for our Military being inferior?

Isn't Canada the country in Afghanistan who's fought the majority of Taliban since NATO landed there?

Were we not the ones who lead Operation Medussa and Operation Baaz Tuska, which both accomplished their objectives?

Were we not the ones who contributed the 3rd largest number of Military forces to NATO?

Has Canada not just added an additional 15 billion to military spending over the next 5 or so years?

Isn't Canada spending an additional pile of money just on arctic defense alone?

Doesn't Canada use the German Leopord 2 Tanks, which are superior to the M1A2 you guys use?

in fact.... here:

The Canadian Army - Equipment

Feel free to view what we use.... you may notice our equipment is for the most part @ par with your own.

I recalla couple of years ago, the canadian Army has to rent out a tranport ship to bring back the bulk of its heavy weaponry from the Balkans. It then forgot (refused) to pay. So the ship stopped in the middle of the ocean and told canada to pay or the army would lose the bulk of its heavy equipment. I beleive a Canadian destroyer had to go out and escort the vessel into Halifax. The arms buildup is probably a response from that highly embarrasing, amusing and disgraceful affair.

That, as you said was a couple of years ago, at one of the lower moments in our funding of our military by the previous government.

But I hardly doubt that was the reason for our current buildup, considdering that was one of many embarrasing moments in our last 30 years of not doing a dam thing with our military, and only keeping it more so as a peace keeping force.

But there are a number of other reasons in play as to why we are arming up more so then before.

Nono's a Canadian born wanker ...
How did you know? (The wanker bit I mean.:))

I was gonna say citizen, but I'm not sure if he's still a citizen, and wanker sounded better.
Still a citizen, and headed back to God's-own-country for a visit in just a couple of days, there to gather further material with which to get on Prax's nerves.

Well I can't gainsay you personally, Prax. And obviously Canadians would be horrified at the thought of American military invasion.

But then I see Canadian sovereignty being dismantled day after day with the full acquiescence of the Canadian government under Poodle-in-Chief Stephen Harper (who inherited the title when Tony Blair stepped down) ... Of course they don't call it loss of sovereignty, they call it "lowering trade barriers" and "making Canada more competitive".

Why do Canadians put up with Harper handing their birthright to Wall Street like that? And you think these same Canadians would resist a US invasion.

The only reason why our population is so south and close together is for lower costs in transportation and trade, less travel, not as densly populated as you guys, so we basically don't need to move north yet..... although there are plenty of communities, towns, cities and military bases very high in the norths.
My, my... I suggest you read up on Canadian realities. A good place to start is Desmond Morton's A short history of Canada. As for "plenty" of urban areas and military in the north, well I don't know how you'd define "plenty".
