| Volcanic Erupter Posts: 4,375 | Sheeple I'm wondering what the functional purpose is of that word. I'm wondering how that word is, in any way, respectful, or appropriate for use in mature discussion. I'm wondering why people who accept the world around them are labeled as unintelligent followers. Obviously there are people out there who are unintelligent followers that don't think for themselves, but accepting the world in which you live doesn't make you such. So please, for those of you that toss the term around, what makes you better than them? Please provide me with some kind of proof, if you could. Because, quite honestly, those of you who toss out the derogatory pigeon-holing terms (nanny-stater, sheeple, etc.) all strike me as followers yourselves for thinking that using those words is cool. IT'S A BOY!! |

| The dingos! Posts: 4,417 | Sheeple are people who've become so accustomed to their government-regimented raping that they're trained to pull the "common sense" card when someone notes the obvious constitutional infringements. A sheeple would: ~ Assume that they're only option is to comply. ~ Make themselves slaves under the guise of 'accepting the world around them' |

I didn't ask what type of people... I asked what purpose it serves to use the word. Quote:

Just like Fonceai, you want to hide your intellectual shortcomings with a holier-than-thou, ruff-n-tuff persona by employing a few big-boy words, and peppering your posts with little speeches decrying opponent X's "bullshit" of the hour.

And I'm not saying our government is just, not by any means. But why insult a group of people because their idea of "just" might be different from ours? Quote:
I cleared up the topic in post #4. Discuss the topic or get out of the thread. IT'S A BOY!! Last edited by Matt W; Aug 10, 2007 at 11:27 am.

Oh I get it, you don't want to have a discussion without the option of being an arrogant ass, because you know you'll be called on it. Just like Fonceai, you want to hide your intellectual shortcomings with a holier-than-thou, ruff-n-tuff persona by employing a few big-boy words, and peppering your posts with little speeches decrying opponent X's "bullshit" of the hour.

| Volcanic Erupter Posts: 4,375 | I didn't miss it. It was full of blatant insult towards me based on someone who was banned for insulting the mods. It is baiting and this is the only response you'll get from me on things like that. Do not post in this thread if you can't participate in the topic. IT'S A BOY!! |

How is insulting a group of people necessary for mature discussion... especially on a forum that is trying to attract serious political debate? And on what grounds do those who give the insult feel they are better than those they are insulting? IT'S A BOY!!

It's a valid evaluation, and a comparison to a member of whom you follow the footsteps of. Your childish attitude is getting in the way of your own education at this site - for it's you who can't adequately participate in the topic. Your questions have been answered. This time, if you'll spare us the tantrum, I'll answer them again - in depth: Quote:

| Guest Posts: n/a | While in my literary view, it is an excellent word, its sole purpose is to denigrate and deviantize people. It's used by people who, lacking cogent and valid arguments for their own ill-informed views, resort to insult, disrespect, and mean-spiritedness. Having lost an argument, it's all that is left to them--a childish lashing out. That there are a number of people using volconvo who find it difficult--often impossible--to make arguments without resorting to such unnecessary tactics is unfortunate. However, their use of words like "sheeple" says more about their personal lack of qualifications, intellect, creativity, moral courage, and character than those they disparage. Regards S. |

| Volcanic Erupter Posts: 4,375 | sdbest I wouldn't necessarily go that far, though I understand the sentiment and agree with your literary view. It is a word that does summarize the type of person being referenced. The problem is that the word is used to be insulting at the same time as representing a group. Why use "sheeple" freely but frown on other disparaging terms for other groups? IT'S A BOY!! |
