| Volcanic Erupter Posts: 4,375 | Heather I realized something interesting after reading your post and please tell me if I'm wrong: It seems like you would rather the indifferent types not vote at all instead of just vote out of obligation for someone who is a bad candidate. IT'S A BOY!! |

In a way, yes, I suppose you're right. I have to wonder what is the point of voting if one is so indifferent they don't even know what they're voting for.

Correct on the former. As for the latter, the same reason you don't shoot soldiers wearing the same uniform as yourself, it's considered "bad form". I just think it's fundamentally wrong to lobby for change from the original experiment, and then prop yourself up as a patriotic American. ( Like in the following example. ) Really, I thought the military had pretty much just been serving corporate interests for the last few few decades. You can dress that argument up any you want, but I think that is just a little of your elitism showing through. ( OK, OK, you are more patriotic than me. ) Quote:
Because you seemingly have this obsession with making everybody restate the obvious. Quote:
Uh, because you're a patriotic American, remember. One of those guys thats in the foxhole fighting for the guy next to him in an effort to save us all. Quote:
Oh, so you're showing your true colors now. You support the right of all American to choose which of their rights to voluntarily forfeit. Quote:
Your Nanny Statism is not adequately concealed behind your cover. It's hanging out on both sides. Quote:
Silly me. ( See how I also apply my name calling on a completely nondiscriminatory manor. ) Quote:
Oh goody, is this another bug up your ass that you will demand change over? Will you cry to Jason until something is done to appease your delicate sensibilities, and the word "sheeple" is banned?

Was in the military... I was quite clear on that. Quote:
I wanted to discuss a word. There is a difference between being aware of your sarcasm, which your post was filled with, and being offended by it. I think as long as you are able to get away with being an asshole (and you know you were being an asshole) without actually being directly insulting, this place will never attract serious debate. But, since your derision isn't against the rules, feel free to insult me further and condescend all you want. I won't respond to it again. IT'S A BOY!!

Just like the threads that were closed, and arguably changed the whole ambience of this place was started by you "wanting to discuss" them, and the purpose of having those threads. ...and yes, the dripping sarcasm was intentional, and well directed I thought. It sure felt good getting it off my chest as well. Last edited by Milton Bradley; Aug 17, 2007 at 08:40 pm. |

| Volcanic Erupter Posts: 4,375 | Well it's good to know you join a topic to insult the creator and not to actually contribute beyond your need to be rude. I look forward to not seeing you post in this thread again. I'd consider further sarcasm and insult trolling and spamming. IT'S A BOY!! |

if this statement is relevant, though, i think i might better surmise what the change was and its consequences. Maybe a limiting of the expressive possibilities of debate because of 'political correctness' thought pattern? Interesting ... A quick review of the thread will prove that to be false. I offered up my opinion in a civil manor. Not until I had to defend myself from your preconcieved ideas ( that start on page #4 ) did I become overly sarcastic. Quote:
Oh boy, now you have promoted yourself to dictator. How nice. You can be sure I won't be considering your feelings when posting here. Unless perhaps I'm there to rain on your parade.

The change I'm speaking of is the disappearance of several of our regular, multi-year posters. To some degree there has also been a change in the general tone around here as well. The "regulars" had a really good track record of being able to run off undesirables, and now that they are gone, or on lurking mode, a lot more crap is allowed to pass unchalleneged from some of the more informed posters. Sorry if my take on this seems somewhat biased, but I fully admit that I am championing one side in this.
