I realized something interesting after reading your post and please tell me if I'm wrong:

It seems like you would rather the indifferent types not vote at all instead of just vote out of obligation for someone who is a bad candidate.

Interesting take, but I think that the majority of people who are aware of whichever candidates may be running and aware of what those candidates represent would say that both are "bad". It's an issue of informing ones self well enough to know which candidate is the better of the "evils" in ones personal estimation rather than being indifferent because one hasn't bothered to find out what those candidates represent.

In a way, yes, I suppose you're right. I have to wonder what is the point of voting if one is so indifferent they don't even know what they're voting for.

That is the type of person I would use the "sheeple" term for. I'm of the first group that if I used it, I would use it to address a certain type of person.

Correct on the former.


As for the latter, the same reason you don't shoot soldiers wearing the same uniform as yourself, it's considered "bad form".


I just think it's fundamentally wrong to lobby for change from the original experiment, and then prop yourself up as a patriotic American. ( Like in the following example. )

I wanted to discuss a word. There is a difference between being aware of your sarcasm, which your post was filled with, and being offended by it.

I think as long as you are able to get away with being an asshole (and you know you were being an asshole) without actually being directly insulting, this place will never attract serious debate.

But, since your derision isn't against the rules, feel free to insult me further and condescend all you want. I won't respond to it again.

this is new to me, being a newb. Is this part of the undefined as of yet change that occurred at Volconvo? Longer term members know what the change is... but I don't want to read every thread in existence, and so the change is still a mystery.

if this statement is relevant, though, i think i might better surmise what the change was and its consequences. Maybe a limiting of the expressive possibilities of debate because of 'political correctness' thought pattern?

The change I'm speaking of is the disappearance of several of our regular, multi-year posters. To some degree there has also been a change in the general tone around here as well.


The "regulars" had a really good track record of being able to run off undesirables, and now that they are gone, or on lurking mode, a lot more crap is allowed to pass unchalleneged from some of the more informed posters.


Sorry if my take on this seems somewhat biased, but I fully admit that I am championing one side in this.
