This essential question has been asked here many times.

I entertain myself this way. It's interactive, in a way that TV or a movie could never be. There are other human beings out there responding to you. It's social. The board is like a coffee shop, where people get to know you and anticipate your stopping by.

And I enjoy spreading my own propaganda. I have some issues I think are worth promoting and so I give it a go when I have a bit of time. Other members often have sources that can reinforce my POV.

I used to visit this place more often, as you might be able to tell from the post count below my username. But everything is subject to change and I found that some of the current patrons were't so enjoyable and the ones I liked best were leaving. So I don't drop in much anymore.

One more thing, Ladies Man 217...Forum posting is highly addictive. This was a cold calculation by the founder and former owner. I found the evidence of his statement to that effect on other boards. He set up a system to hook people on a pattern he knew would create a ongoing return to the place. He was a Pusher of a certain type and since he sold Volconvo, I must assume he received some compensation that was valuable to him.

So... Your Time = money in the forum owner's pocket. Think about it.

I believe it's a form of entertainment that enlightens.

That's pretty much it. I get a rush of dopamine from the reward system in my brain when I post. I'm addicted to dopamine. Once in a while I feel bad, and the house is a mess, and I take a couple weeks off from forums--and then the inevitable "I wonder if anyone posted anything about me" makes me "check in" a couple forums.

Before you know it I'm wasting hours a day again. So, for me, "the point" is to make up for my dopamine deficiency.

I am lead to ask this question in part by some of the things that were said by Lord Achleon's "Do you care how other's view you?" thread. He said some very off color things about the relevance of debating online and it kind of struck me even though he was a total ass. I began to weigh the cost/benefits of debating on this site and I am kind of at a loss. It is extremely involved and time consuming, much of which could be spent on things far more productive to my life, however it exposes me to different points of views and challenges my beliefs occasionally, which is not bad. But my brother put it this way, he said, "Debating online is like the Special Olympics, even if you win, you are still retarded." So I ask you, "What is the point?"
What's the point? Depends on your perspective.... in order to properly answer, I must answer your question with another question.

Question:

• What else should we be doing?
• How long do you actually think I or anybody else stays in here to post?

Ok two questions.... but should be easy to answer to get a final answer.

Besides coming on here, should I be playing video games, making some model airplanes, going out to pick up some skank at a bar, trying to find a cure for some virus on the planet?

Exactly what should I be doing? Taking up smoking a few minutes here and there instead of a few mins here and there here?

If we should be told what we should be doing with our lives from someone else in here who is doing the exact same thing, doesn't that seem a little silly to you?

..... Esspecially when you take the advice of someone who only came on here to rag out and complain about other online forum debators such as theirselves.

He complained we were wasting our lives away, that we don't have any jobs, that we can't get into relationships, etc.... that we should be doing something more productive with our lives, so we can "pick up chicks." ~ When in a sense, isn't someone who only found the purpose on here to come in and complain kinda hypocritical, considdering he had nothing better with his own time but to rag out people he's never met, nor knows anything about?

It is silly you even brought that up since no one is telling anyone what they should be doing but asking why you come here to debate on this site. You seem to be very defensive when I am only asking a simple question out of my own curiosity.

Of course, some of us wonder why there even has to be a point. :)

I wasn't being defensive, nor was I actually trying to point towards you in paticular.... you mentioned a topic which brought this thought up, I was responding to the concept in which he brought up orignally and how he was pointing his finger, telling everybody their so-called faults and how they should improve their lives, etc..... that we're not doing anything with our lives, etc....

Then you began to add to that point, and raise it yet again to get an answer.... you related it to the previous topic, so thus, I responded to both the original topic and your question at the same time.

You brought it up again, asking.... so I told you.... nobody was being defensive..... that was my explination. If you don't like it.... oh well.

I don't see any logical reason to ask such a question to begin with, since we could ask why we do anything in our lives. It should be ab obvious answer which varies from person to person, but remains generally the same, in which asking should be irrelevent.

There was no defense to begin with... you asked why we come here.... as if we should actually have an answer for that.....

Before you come on here asking such a question, perhaps you should also answer the question you presented, which you didn't yet.

Why are you here? You're reasons may actually answer your question for many here.

Added:

As you may have figured out by now, I come on here, because I get entertainment in confusing people

Praxman, lets chillax for a sec. In the OP I sort of weighed the Pros and Cons and was sort of asking(maybe not in the most effecient way) is it worth it to you in the end after all things considered, which also involved to why do you come and what do you get out of it. They are all legitimate questions and they have different answers for different people as you said in your previous post and those are the answers that I am curious about. Just to put you at ease, I am in no way, shape , or form siding with or agreeing with Lord Acharleon, which is where I am guessing these aggressive overtones in your posts stem from due to your confrontation with him, which I am pretty sure you are not meaning to do.

Only towards him... not towards you.

I come on here to compare perspectives.... I don't come on here to point fingers and say someone is right or someone is wrong (Most of the time) I come on here to view people's opinions, not to see what their opinion is, but to understand why they have that opinion to begin with..... aka: what brought them to this conclusion.
