Sometimes Musicians make more sense:

Nine Inch Nails ~ Capitaol G.

Quote:
I pushed a button and elected him to office and uh -
He pushed the button and dropped the bomb
You pushed the button and could watch it on the television
Those motherf**kers didn't last too long huh-huh
I'm sick of hearing about the have's and the have not's
Have some personal accountability
The biggest problem with the way that we've been doing things is
The more we let you have the less that I'll be keeping for me

Well I used to stand for something
Now I'm on my hands and knees
Traded in my god for this war
He signs his name with a capital G

Don't give a sh*t about the temperature in Guatemala
Don't really see what all the fuss is about

Ain't gonna worry about no future generations and uh!
I'm sure somebody gonna figure it out
Don't try to tell me how some power can corrupt a person!
You haven't had enough to know what its like
You're only angry cause you wish you were in my position
Now nod your head because you know that I'm right...alright!

Well I used to stand for something
But forgot what that could be
There's a lot of me inside you
Maybe you're afraid to see

Well I used to stand for something
Now I'm on my hands and knees
Traded in my god for this war
And he signs his name with a capital G
And a kick arse beat to boot too.... always love Trent's lyrics, lol...

Now as a topic starter, how many of us here listen to music, raise your hands? What do they normally sing about? What do they make you feel? Is the music you listen to for enjoyment or does it affect or has an effect your life in anyway?

Do a YouTube.com search on one of your neighbors, Praxius, Stan Rogers. A loss to us all that he died so young, albeit heroically.

King Crimson, Tool, Meshuggah, Ween, Godspeed! you black Emperor, Dredg, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Alice in Chains. All of which have their own satirical viewpoint on the current state of affairs.

Since Reznor is talking about current events, I would like to share some of King Crimson's lyrics written in 1969. Pete Sinfield is a great poet by the way...

Quote:
Quote by: King Crimson - Epitaph
Between the iron gates of fate,
The seeds of time were sown,
And watered by the deeds of those
Who know and who are known;
Knowledge is a deadly friend
When no one sets the rules.
The fate of all mankind I see
Is in the hands of fools.

Confusion will be my epitaph.
As I crawl a cracked and broken path
If we make it we can all sit back
and laugh.
But I fear tomorrow I'll be crying,
Yes I fear tomorrow I'll be crying.

Quote:
Quote by: King Crimson - 21st century schizoid man
Cat's foot iron claw
Neuro-surgeons scream for more
At paranoia's poison door
Twenty first century schizoid man.

Blood rack barbed wire
Politicians' funeral pyre
Innocents raped with napalm fire
Twenty first century schizoid man.

Death seed blind man's greed
Poets' starving children bleed
Nothing he's got he really needs
Twenty first century schizoid man.
Quote:
Quote by: King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King

On soft grey mornings widows cry,
The wise men share a joke;
I run to grasp divining signs
To satisfy the hoax.
The yellow jester does not play
But gently pulls the strings
And smiles as the puppets dance
In the court of the crimson king.

I listen to country and alot of the lyrics stop and make me think about life and how things are. Music is a way for me to relax and it always gets me out of a bad mood

Emerson Drive "Moments"
Quote:
I was coming to the end of a long long walk
When a man crawled out of a cardboard box
Under the E. Street Bridge
Followed me on to it
I went out halfway across
With that homeless shadow tagging along
So I dug for some change
Wouldn't need it anyway
He took it lookin' just a bit ashamed
He said, You know, I haven't always been this way

I've had my moments, days in the sun
Moments I was second to none
Moments when I knew I did what I thought I couldn't do
Like that plane ride coming home from the war
That summer my son was born
And memories like a coat so warm
A cold wind can't get through
Lookin' at me now you might not know it
But I've had my moments

I stood there tryin' to find my nerve
Wondering if a single soul on Earth
Would care at all
Miss me when I'm gone
That old man just kept hanging around
Lookin' at me, lookin' down
I think he recognized
That look in my eyes
Standing with him there I felt ashamed
I said, You know, I haven't always been this way

I've had my moments, days in the sun
Moments I was second to none
Moments when I knew I did what I thought I couldn't do
Like the day I walked away from the wine
For a woman who became my wife
And a love that, when it was right,
Could always see me through
Lookin' at me now you might not know it
But I've had my moments

I know somewhere 'round a trashcan fire tonight
That old man tells his story one more time
He says

I've had my moments, days in the sun
Moments I was second to none
Moments when I knew I did what I thought I couldn't do
Like that cool night on the E. Street Bridge
When a young man almost ended it
I was right there, wasn't scared a bit
And I helped to pull him through
Lookin' at me now you might not know it
Oh, lookin' at me now you might not know it
But I've had my moments

I've had my moments
I've had my moments
or

Rodney Atkins "If your goin thru hell"
Quote:
Well you know those times
When you feel like there's a sign there on your back
Say's I don't mind if ya kick me
Seems like everybody has
Things go from bad to worse
You'd think they can't get worse than that
And then they do

You step off the straight and narrow
And you don't know where you are
Use the needle of your compass
To sew up your broken heart
Ask directions from a genie
In a bottle of Jim Beam
And she lies to You
And that's when you learn the truth

If you're going through hell
Keep on going, Don't slow down
If you're scared, don't show it
You might get out
'fore the devil even knows you're there

Well I been deep down in that darkness
I been down to my last match
Felt a hundered different demons
Breathing fire down my back
And I knew that if I stumbled
I'd fall right into the trap that they were laying

But the good news
Is there's angels everywhere out on the street
Holding out a hand to pull you back up on your feet
The one's that you been dragging for so long
You're on your knees
You might as well be praying

Guess what I'm saying
If you're going through hell
Keep on going, Don't slow down
If you're scared, don't show it
You might get out
'fore the devil even knows you're there

I guess the kids today are calling it Emo... but I still call it music created without help from the monopolies. or, indie rock, punk. some of your own countryfolk, Propagandhi/ weakerthans. nin, always, of course. tool, for prosperity. i listen to music that actually states something lyrically, and usually that is either how emotion screws us over so badly by bringing us so high to only drop us so low. also, The Coup is a pretty good outfit. music that says what is really going on, in beautifully sardonic fashion..

i like music. still fancy me a good punk tune now and then. ahh, ska. i like music quite a bit. i dislike when bands get really popular, and start to pop-out. it makes me sad. somehow though, modest mouse still hasn't made me sad. that is good. :) despite the popping.

i don't know if the music is a causal influence, though. it is mostly just reflective of my current state of affairs. (like now i am more off on your Walkmen/ Yeah Yeah Yeahs/ Magnetic Fields 69-love-songs-era/ even Garden State st style of love storying... very sad stuff, very bitterly funny stuff) but then sometimes, when the tone of the music i happen to be listening to changes, it seems that life also begins changing as well.

music satisfies some pretty ancient needs, i think.

What about you, Prax?

I don't go out of my way to listen to music, and I certainly don't buy it, I enjoy any music that makes me happy, and it's never changed the way I think.

Agreed... I was one of the biggest fans for The Tea Party... a Canadian Rock band.... one of the best original bands since Rush.... but they broke up because the lead singer had a drug problem, hated where the band was going, got married, had a kid, then he broke it up and went solo..... not his music is crap, he's acting like "He Was" the Tea Party.... and his ego has pretty much killed my love for the band.... I still love the music, but I can never go and listen to his music anymore.... it's lost it's originality.

Althouth the Tea Party was going a bit more mainstream, it was still good and original.... but I noticed the lead singers lyrics were getting pretty basic and kinda lame in comparison to previous albums like Edges of Twilight, etc..... which I imagine could be attibuted to his lack of interest and drug problems of the time.....

But music has always been one of the best ways in history to tell a story and bring life to it.
