To help in having positive thinking, help of those live around is essential. Once the person is habituated of positive thinking, he would not go into depression. Rather he would be useful for others in distress to avoid it. |

| Sedimentary Rock Posts: 4 | contentment entirely depends on the level of satisfaction one assings to his life. it is relatively easier for ordinary people to be content. take a third world country, Bangladesh, for example. a recent survey has showed that Bangalis are the happiest people in the world. with a per capita income of several hundred dollars a year, this sort of national contentment is quite amazing. i personally came across people who said they will be content if they manage a mere way of earning and a happy family. i once met a boatman who told me that his ultimate desire is to buy a boat for himself. conversely, for those who are engaged in creative fileds like art, cinema, music etc. contenment is something that remains a 'golden dear' throughout their lives. they always hanker after the masterpiece that they never manage to create. and this discontent is their driving force, when they are content they will cease to deliver. |

![]() At the point, when he would get a boat for himself, he would develop another wish to have a better house instead as it is just human nature. That would go on and on, that is the beauty of life !!! ![]() Quote:
I do not see anything wrong in having innumerable number of wishes, desires, expectations since, I am a living being and since it is the property of any living being, humans in particular to be like that. What a fully content person would do is, he would strive his level best to fulfill that wish, mathodically utlising his avaiable resourses, outsources and means etc. At the final stage or at the time of result, it is obvious to get a success or a failure. A real content person would never bother the efforts which he put, since he has to again re-try to fulfill his wish while, a discontent person would get broken down and remain completely more dis-content throught his life. I never consider it as correct that real content person would cease to prosper and develop. Real contentment is not with the situation you are in. Everybody would like to have change for better so would try for development would continue for all (both contented person as well as discontented person). The real contentment has to be with the result you get (Destiny) after putting efforts for the wish/expectation. or /??No, neither of the two; it is logical fact. | |||

| Sedimentary Rock Posts: 4 | the reaction that an individual shows after he fails or succeeds in doing or achieving something is SATISFACTION or DISSATISFACTION. thats exactly what i am trying to say. when the boatman develops another wish to have something else, he increases his level of satisfaction as a result of which he will become discontent again. however, contentment is an extremely personal affair. its not about whether his family is content with how he runs the family, its all about whether the individual himself is content with the way he is running his family. where have i said that its wrong to have wishes, desires or expectations? moreover, never have i related success with contentment. i have never said unsuccessful people are discontent or vice versa. a successful filmamker, who has all of his films box office hits, may end up saying at the end of his career, ' i aint content with what i have produced.' do all discontent persons get broken down? i dont think so. is discontentment always bad? i dont think so either. |

| Kuldeep Location: Bhopa, M.P, India Posts: 1,713 | Let me put it simple: To me, content does not mean one should not have future aims, higher desires to progress and the like. But, real contentment is to remain content with the results (success or failure) obtained after hard trying to get those desired aims. Such a person can never have discontentment when success or failure does not bother him at all. His all the actions for fulfilling desires are just a fun play. ![]() |

| Kuldeep Location: Bhopa, M.P, India Posts: 1,713 | That is fine and also is my belief that all living beings do the same thing. Even, every moment in one's life is passed with that intention in mind. But, discontentment appears only, when one come across failures. These failures should not affect his dear and pleasant contentment is the golden surmon !! ![]() |

| Spiral Out Location: Canada Posts: 514 | As the song Stinkfist by Tool says "constant over stimulation numbs me... boredom's not a burden anyone should bare", I too am greatly desensitized with life most of the time. Although my logic tells me I should be very content with my life for everything I have, it's my human nature to want more. So add one more on the list of dissidents. Praying for tidal waves. Learn to swim. |
