And considering that Mr Vicc's were the most offensive amongst them so far, I've got nothing further to say. Posts: 4,412 | If Reagan had any idea what his administration was doing, which I doubt, he was a terrorist of the first order - see Ed Herman's "Ther Real Terror Network." If he didn't know what was going on, which seems to be the case, then he was just a nice 'B' movie actor, who acted sort of well all the way up to the time his unfortunate illness overtook him. I wouldn't wish that on anyone, but I wouldn't wish what happened to thousands of people in Central America because of his administration on anyone either. Had someone posted a "HITLER R.I.P. WE LOVE YOU ADOLF" thread, I don't think V would think that it was a appropriate to remain silent about his crimes. Adolf is certainly more of a criminal than Ronnie, but again, if Ronnie knew what was going on, the difference was only a matter of degree. |

| Playful Location: Groningen, the Netherlands Posts: 805 | The non-rhetorical non-emotional reason is that it is a rhetorical/emotional comparison which, in an argument, will never hold ground and you will not reach the people who you try to convince, only the people who have reason to accept that notion in the first place. Therefore, besides the fact that I really find it inappropriate to compare whatever hitler did to anything anyone else did, it is not a wise choice to use him as a basis for any comparison, no matter how right you think you are in using him. |

The point was not to compare, but to show that 'V' had a limit as to what he would consider a respect the dead thread. He would not respect the dead in that thread. |

I disagree (only 16 now, so his presidency would not have affected me too much) with most of his policies... but I've heard he was a good person. The kind of guy who I'd be friends with, but not in a million years vote for. |

| Skeptical Patriot Posts: 7,832 | While I can certainly see the point in Mr. V's anger, I have to put my three cents in. While it is very nice to have a respectful tribute to someone you hold in high regard, I agree this may have not been the right place to do it. Politics is a very volatile topic with a LOT of people (remember how the cliche goes, "never discuss politics or religion in a bar") and Mr. V, or anyone else for that matter should have realized that no matter who you pick to pay respect to, there ARE people who will jump in with both feet. Either that, or it was a setup all along and the result was expected. People DO play games like this to start crap up, you know. Or it was an error in judgement to put the thread on a political forum in the first place, in which case I would advise Mr. V to just relax and move on. It's not like he was the only one here to use poor judgement, is it? Take a breath and jump back in, Mr. V. I welcome the opportunity to debate with you further, as I think you are one of the few Conservatives here dignified enough to argue intelligently. Wrong, of course, but intelligently! :) Not a day goes by that I don't see something that reinforces my belief that people are idiots. |
