| Moral Turnip Location: Oregon, US Posts: 2,283 | This seems an unfair election. Don't the mods have specific areas of responsibility? So that some mods only do their thing in certain forums, but not in others? That would mean that I never see the science and technology mod in action, since I never go in that forum. How are we to judge best mod? In addition, what is our criteria for best mod? Most capable of keeping a discussion in line? Most lenient? Best at giving warnings but not infraction points? The one who got rid of the people we don't like? I think my vote is simply going to be this: this forum has a remarkably relaxed, collegiate, and yet respectful atmosphere, which has allowed me to learn, to grow, to think, and to enjoy myself for the last two years. I haven't spent time on many other debate forums, but the ones I have gone to are not in the same league with volconvo. Since most of that atmosphere comes from the admin and the mods, I think the crew we have here is the best I have seen, and my hat's off to every one of them. They have my gratitude. Although there is one mod whom I think tends to waver, the moderation here is generally very high in these stakes, particularly when compared to other forums. By the way, you missed out rcne and Chris the Chees on your poll. |

| Principled Observer Location: Toledo, Ohio Posts: 13,876 | I dont have a thing against any of the mods, so it would be hard to vote for a "iron boot award". I am awed by the level-headedness of the mods, and commend them, as well as Jason, for running one of the least "nanny state" debate forums on the web. I have had issues with people, where I didn't agree with the mods, but I haven't seen one Iron Boot here yet. If I had to pick which one I thought was the best mod, while being a contributor, I would have to go with Isherwood or Bishop or Matt. Isherwood and Matt strike me as fairer than the average mod, and Bishop is doing damn well since his "inclusion" to the "elite" group. (I was doubtful, I'll have you know Bishop) Kudos chaps. ![]() Throbbing Member Location: Old Europe Posts: 7,439 | I vote for Matt. Why? In my view he's the hardest-working mod, someone who visibly patrols the threads with a constant eye on compliance with the rules -- which is what mods are supposed to do, after all. | Volcanic Erupter Posts: 4,375 | I went with Matt because he is the one that keeps in mind when and how to be a mod. He stays objective and, by his own admission, will not involve himself in issues where he has a more personal opinion that would bias his objectivity. Plus, and this is the biggest one, I have rarely, if ever, seen him engage in any of the back-and-forth bickering on the forum. Every other mod has, at one time or another. |
