Why men like to gaze on the female form

Why men like to gaze on the female form | Uk News | News | Telegraph

Quote:
Men find photos of the opposite sex much more "rewarding" than women, new research claims today.

According to the study men take the same pleasure out of looking at an attractive female form as they do from having a curry or making money whereas women do not take any significant reward from looking at pictures of men.

Men consume more pornography than women
The survey published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B said that brain scan studies show that "reward centres" are triggered in men when they gaze at a woman's face or body whereas they are not in females. It also shows men are more likely to make an effort to view pictures of the opposite sex and pay out money.
Quote:
The team gave 20 heterosexual men and 20 women opportunity to view non pornographic photos of members of the opposite sex and tested if money would offer as much reward, as well as whether people would work harder on a computer to see a photo they were interested in.

Men were significantly more patient than women when choosing to view attractive females than when choosing to view neutral or unattractive females.

"For men, the reward of seeing a woman is strongly influenced by physical attractiveness, but for women physical attractiveness has little or no impact," said Dr Hayden.
Well I'm very surprised at this survey's results given the low number of individuals involved

I think it's a long-established fact that visual stimulation is far more important in male sexuality than in female sexuality. So, low number of individuals or not, this survey merely reflects a truism.

They needed a study for this? It's been known for years men are hornier than women.

Twenty is a pretty small number for an experiment of this sort, but it is still large enough to be fairly accurate.

Indeed. Minimum sample size is supposed to be 30. But let's get back to the topic.

I think it makes perfect sense that men get aroused when they see a beautiful female form. The test they DIDN'T do (which I'd be curious to see) is "do WOMEN get aroused when they see a beautiful female form?" I wouldn't be surprised.

Reason: mom gives us milk when we're babies. That forms a strong psychological bond in our minds--breasts, and the activation of the limbic system (pleasure center). Food stimulates us in exactly the same way.

Test this theory: take kids who weren't breast-fed and do the same study. I'd be surprised if the results WEREN'T different.

Evidence: women buy fashion magazines and pore over pictures of other women, but men don't do the same with pictures of men. Why? God only knows, but it's surely significant.

Well I guess I'm just gifted because I go both ways

I don't become speechless when I see a person that looks good though. For girls, I try very hard to look them in the eye when I talk to them instead of......other, areas

I don't think male visual stimulation is just a sexual thing...... we like sports, video games, off road racing, war, basically anything that keeps the eyes stimulated... a female body is just another one of those things.

The easy way to say it, is male's main sensor they use is Sight.... while females tend to use their sense of sound.

Counterevidence: The ancient Greeks/Romans were obsessed with the male form, and built statues of that idealized form around everywhere. Did they not breastfeed?

More counterevidence: It's pretty obvious that some male celebrities are quite popular among females, enough to sell movie tickets. Now I guess it's possible that this attraction is non-physical, but I honestly doubt it.

My guess is the study is flawed. Heterosexual males and females both find attractive members of the opposite sex visually appealing, and probably the same sex to some extent as well. Men may value it more, and they are definitely more into porn, but it exists in most genders to an extent.

The female form has been admired since time immemorial. So what is the news here?

This is the part that surprised me, brien:

Personally, I'd have to agree. Look at who gorgeous, rich, famous women go for vs. who similarly situated men: we've got Rik Ocasek with Paulina Porizkova, Tim Burton with Helena Bonham Carter, Billy Joel with Christie Brinkley, and so forth.

This is all kind of naive science at this point.

You can't base the facts on assumptions that all women buy magazines to look at men.

For instance, the Men's Health usually has quite a few athenian physiqued men in there, if they didn't think it impressed other men, they wouldn't put it in there

And also FYI, April 2007 contained an entire section on Men's Fashion. Unfortunately after pricing most of the outfits, they were all well over 1,000 each... I don't have that kind of money

Yep, guys who read Men's Health and Men's Fashion are either gay or at least metrosexual enough to be close.

You know? I'm a tad slow today, but I kinda got thinking about this thread:

"Why men like to gaze on the female form | Uk News | News | Telegraph"

I read it, and it just says men prefer to look at women more then women like to look at men..... it doesn't say why.

Rewarding? I don't get it.

Oh and I know plent of women who like to google some men walking by. Maybe it's different in the UK then it is here in Canada..... which could be true.... cuz you know.... we're more attractive overall anyways.... what, with the cold keeping us from aging and all

Yes, perhaps males are just more willing to admit attraction in order to assert masculinity in light of the gayness of the times.
