| THROBBIN ROBIN Location: USA Posts: 311 | As I sat and watched the news yesterday, listening to both the truths and lies spewed forth by my friendly news stalkers, I realized that they continuously brought up the fact that more and more children / teens between the ages of 13-17 where regularly doing ONE OR ALL THREE OF THE POLL CHOICES everyday. My question is two part: Is drug use really on the rise from your (or parents, for current teens) highschool days, or is it just more apparent? Why are teens turning to these methods of escape?? I believe that "gateway" drugs, aka. pot, mushrooms, tobacco and alcohol, use is on the rise but "harder" drugs, aka. meth, herion, LSD, Acid (etc) is actually not being used frequently by those in the age group of 13-17. I believe, from some expierence that teen mostly do / try substances from the stress of an unbalanced life. Who put it most brilliantly was my Drama as Literature teacher, Mr. Kline, who said that teens use substances because "They are afraid of what is coming, not what is happing." A man has two reasons for doing anything --- a good reason and the real reason. Let us be thankful for the fools. But for them the rest of us could not succeed In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |
