Like I said, I've smoked for nearly 40 years now, and I think that qualifies me as a member in good wheezing of the smoker's guild. I'm on the inside, so to speak. Yet I admit I've never come across this terminology. Am I far more out of it than I previously suspected or is this a fairly new term/local colloquialism/inside joke/other?
Well, honestly I don't know. It was a new term to me, but it seems widespread if you look in the areas that would be inclined to have such information.

My "stuffing machine" does exactly that. It cuts, stuffs and packs tobacco into a pre-formed, factory style filtered tube.

Agreed. There isn't much force that can compare with that wielded by government as far as the ability to "impose fear".

When I smoked tobacco, I rolled Bugler tobacco bought in Tins and stuffed it in carrying pouches. Once when I was stopped by Sheriff Taylor and Deputy Barney Fife in Georgia in 1970, they thought they had me when they found the tobacco in pouches. It perhaps distracted them from the real McCoy I had stashed in my inner jacket pocket. They never found almost an ounce of fine Columbian buds. When my buddy and I rolled over the Fla border in that "steamin heap" of a 1963 Chevy II, we rolled and smoked one helluva bone. What a day. Oh, to be 19 again. "Youth is wasted upon the young". :)

You should have seen the looks I got in 1970....I know the feeling well. Picked up a lot of young girls for the evening when they wandered over to see what I was rolling up. Great conversation starter...

I just recently started stuffing my own cigarettes. Mainly because I like the extra ability of screwing the tax collector out of more money, but also because after trying a friends, the quality was superior to any purchased cigarette I have tried.

Do any of the smokers out there roll or stuff your own cigarettes?

I am currently using the Vera Cruz Nocturne "tube" in king size, with filter, and a blend of McClintock Light and Roland Light. Fantastic, bold taste, with a rich chocholate taste and smell, and NO chemical or bleached paper taste as with bleached papered cigarettes.

Anyone else?
Osborn There is something very satisfying about rolling one. It a bit like uncorking an excellent red which you are going to decant and allow too breath before taking that first sip. Or better still slowly caressing and arousing a sensual woman. It a kind of ritual, carefuly picking the chosen strands and laying them into the paper, smoothing them liberaly and thoroughly too ensure a full but not too packed smoke. A ritual, which improves hand dexterity, then the sealing lick which means the fuse of came can be lit.
Oh yes those who smoke and do not roll are I think missing one of the better parts of indulging in the habit :)

I reap all the rewards mentioned Arawn, except I don't use spit to glue it all together.
