According to Bob McChesney, Time Warner, the largest magazine publisher in the nation, is currently influencing the US Post Office to implement a mailing rate structure that "gives the best prices to the biggest publishers, hence letting them lock in their market position and lessen the threat of any new competition." As long as there are more providers, there is no monopoly, de facto or otherwise. The government artificially keeps the costs of the USPS low, so in a sense they are the de facto carrier of light mail. |
