Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) is a British charity dedicated to the health and humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people. MAP was established in 1984 in the aftermath of the Sabra and Shatila massacres in Lebanon and today it operates in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (the West Bank and Gaza Strip) and Lebanon delivering basic health and medical care to Palestinian refugees. MAP also works to empower the Palestinian people and provide longer-term support through, for example, training local medical staff, teaching vocational skills and addressing the needs of particularly vulnerable groups such as disabled people. It is a non-political and non-partisan organisation supported by the British public, British Government, European Union and many international organisations.

MAP offers practical support and friendship to the Palestinians and others affected by conflict and displacement. Working in partnership with local organisations our programme priorities are as follows:

In the Occupied Palestinian Territories:

Provision of health care for isolated rural communities in the West Bank;
Improving nutrition in Gaza;
Psycho-social support to women and children traumatised by the conflict;
Support for people with disabilities, whether disabled by birth or injury.
In the Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon:

Improving environmental health;
Support for primary health care;
Income generation;
Support for people with disabilities.

The constantly changing situation in the region creates many practical difficulties for delivering and sustaining programmes. However we believe that our twenty years of experience, our close relationships with local NGOs (non-governmental organisations) and the Palestinian Health Service, our commitment to capacity building and our ability to respond quickly and effectively in a crisis mean that MAP is uniquely placed to make a very real practical difference to people's lives.

NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 billion developing a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to over 300 C.

What's debatable here?

Probably no debate, but if someone can start a good thread about things going on in Iraq, they're probably just starting a good one for Palestine.

I agree. Charities can do whatever they want, and humanitarian aid to anyone (without government control) is not a debatable issue at all.

Speaking as one who believes, regardless of the demonization of an entire people, that many Palestinians (and Iraqis, etc.) are regular joes like us, I applaud this organization. Of course, you run the risk of being called a terrorist front or sympathizer, so I'll await the charges to surface as this outfit gets more recognition.

Just as soon as Gallagher or Limbaugh tells them to think this, the far right should be arriving shortly.

Not a day goes by that I don't see something that reinforces my belief that people are idiots.
