| 20-20 Atheist Location: Las Vegas, NV Posts: 466 | Pitch for a book? Inspired by these forums. A hardened warrior and philosopher of Rome, Matthias, named after the famous apostle, suddenly claims that God is evil. A claim of such epic proportions had never even been thought of before, and is sentenced to death by crucifixion. Waking up in Hell, he cuts a deal with the devil, promising that with Satan’s help, he could overthrow God and possibly bring about the Apocalypse. Join Matthias’ quest to kill God and see just how far people will go to stop him. Before you send you send your hate mail, I'd like to say a few things. 1. This has nothing to do with my personal religion, for I am an atheist, and believe in neither God nor Satan. 2. Of course, this would be completely fictional and would not be implying on the original apostle himself. 3. Call the main character evil all you want, but it's just another viewpoint, as discussed in the "God is FAR more evil than Satan" topic (Philsophy and Religion). 4. This would also have a philosophical twist on things, explaining what the main character believes and what many others believe. Last edited by saltinespike; Apr 9, 2007 at 10:50 pm. |

| Moral Turnip Location: Oregon, US Posts: 2,283 | What could possibly make someone turn their ideas on their heads like that? Who "suddenly" decides that God is evil, having thought previously that god is good, and believes in god's evil so devoutly that they are willing to cut a deal with Lucifer and precipitate the Apocalypse? I can't imagine the trauma that would make someone do that, not realistically. "Would you like some pie, Dr. Stark?" "Science is my pie. Curiosity, my sweet tooth. Knowledge is my candy." |

The reason he would cut a deal could be for multiple reasons that I have not decided yet. Natural rebel, Lucifer tempting him with great rewards, possibly promising him to BE God? Remember, this is only a pitch, and I have not thought out every detail.

When people come the realization that "if" God created everything, then He must have created evil, and Satan, and then let Satan rule the world. Many people are forced into the "think He's evil camp", or the "think He has a twisted sense of humor" camp just from reading the bible, and interpreting it for themselves. Probably one or two steps from being agnogstic, or atheist, just give'em time.

| Guest Posts: n/a | Technically, the premise--which is intriguing and fraught with potential--lacks the basic fundamentals of sound narrative structure. I suggest you read "Story" by Robert McKee, "Poetics" by Aristotle, and "The Writer's Journey" by Christopher Vogler before you put key stroke to screen. Or, go to novelist Barbara Kyle's web site and order her DVD-based course. Regards S. |

You should make Satan the good guy though, make him like the victim of terrible propaganda brought upon by god to make Satan seem evil, when god himself was actually evil. Then make a crazy ass twist, like, it turns out Matthias is the reincarnation of Jesus, who was actually Satan's son. Possible Spoiler: At the end, Matthias kills God, but refuses his position as God, for all "righteousness" has left him. Before Satan reaches him to kill him (his ultimate goal was to use Matthias to become God), Matthias kills himself, for he cannot uphold the position of God. If I could possibly write a book off of this, I would make a sequal, and the next book would be a war worse than the Apocolypse. Everyone would would be murdering for God's place. That is the only thing I have figured out. Don't wanna plan too far ahead. End of Possible Spoilers Some people like the idea. Some people don't. I wrote less than a page so far, to test out my story-telling skills. I will post what I have so far if enough people want to see it.

| Paladin Location: Narnia Posts: 4,277 | I was referring to Jesus. I don't hold the view that He is exactly the same as the Father, but I could not resist.
