Heading out to pick a delivery from the Stork!

My and I are about to head over to the hospital and have C-section!

Actually, she is having the C-section, I am just watching with anxiety.

Actually, I am somewhat possessed by anxious hyper-awareness at the moment. Just posting here to vent some of it.

Oh, my wife just signed up on Volconvo. Her login is Chaos Lover. She is not really into debating (especially with me).

And thanks to Fonceai for his nice baby wish to me on PM.

I never understood why we gave colored cigars to new born babies.... You'd think a cigar that size would be unhealthy to them.

Oh well, must be tradition..... I'll get a big Cuban for my baby.

Congrats and hope everything goes well.

Congratulations CC, all the best to your wife and baby. Fingers crossed they're not ginger

With a name like that, I see a career in politics, first as a lawyer then as president. :)
Congrats to you all.

(And since this is a debate forum, that raises an interesting topic; why do we congratulate the father upon the birth of a child? His sole contribution to the birth was to perform an act most men would consider quite enjoyable and try to perform as often as possible. Why don't we congratulate men after having sex all the time? )

Well, the responsible father's continue presence, support, and paternal care for the child and mother are what's congratulated. For instance, people usually don't congratulate teen parents or jailhouse hooligans who father children they have no will to support. And yes, although mothers seem to carry most of the burden of childbirth, responsible fathers share some of it as well.

I don't mind congratulating them for being great fathers, once they've been fathers. But we congratulate them at the moment of delivery...while the poor mother's laying there all sweaty and exhausted and he's grinning and waving his camcorder around. At that point, his sole contribution was to have sex.

(I hope you know I'm being obtuse and goofy. I know the answer to my own question, but in the abstract it's amusing, at least to me, to reconsider the practice.)

I just saw this thread. Congratulations and I wish all three of you all the best.

And I think the kid will grow up to be a rock star. He'll probably adopt a stage name like Thugsquat and people will think his real name is so cool when they find out what it is.

Or an actor.

Perhaps he could be a great national hero, and reformer?

Shall I send some instructional texts?

Indeed, on the surface it's often something to wonder about, particularly when you see the mother working very hard to give birth compared to the father who seems to be doing nothing at the moment. But no, they've both done something.

I think you can get copies made by Fisher-Price. The Constitution is made of big, puffy pages and they squeak when you squeeze them. So are the federalist papers.

My father was a hero for Louisiana.

Don't know if I will ever be able to do as much good as him, but I certainly encourage my children to be forces of good.
