It's alright, you can redeem yourself if you tell me where this one came from:

It's roughly half the amount of ground a groundhog can grind, if a groundhog can grind ground.
Didn't I read that in a Dennis the Menace comic book once upon a time. Like, when I was about 8?

Then there's the other mystery: How much brew could a Hebrew brew if a Hebrew could brew brew?

Ok. The ultimate question ...

What's the difference between an orange?

Or to quote an old Amboy Dukes tune, "Why is a carrot more orange than an orange?"

Can you provide evidence to support such an assertion?

"Difference" implies subtraction of values. As no argument was specified for the object the orange was being compared to, it is assumed that the object is null or nonexistent. In math terms, this would be, simply, 0.

Therefore, given the average diameter of an orange, 10cm, and the average diameter of nothing, 0, you are left with the following simple equation:

10cm - 0cm = (10-0)cm = 10cm.

Next.

A riddle for the members of Volconvo:

He is the person we can't be,
A person apart from you and me,
Never together because it is better,
Or so dictates the Law of English Letters.

Who is he?

How far do you live away from Isherwood?

Answer: Just a "mouse-click" away.

Should you be worried or happy about that?

Answer: No.

How come Volconvo does not have a Rush Limburgercheese thread to debunk what he said on the radio.

Answer: Because you did not start one. (Nor did anyone else for that matter.. guess he is not all that popular around here).

Now, do you know why this forum is spelled "Volconvo" instead of "Hurriconvo" or "Global Brainwarming"?

New case. This one's important:

G. Adams recently admitted that his average annual intake of alcohol is 676 liters/year. Given this rate, how long would it take him to drink an entire Olympic-sized swimming pool filled with alcohol, and what would such a procedure cost (excluding the cost of the pool and any necessary medical procedures resulting from his inevitable alcohol poisoning)?

Well, if the "Law of English Letters" refers to English grammar (is that a stretch?) it would have to be the Third Person, either singular or plural.

Uhh.. OK, which is the only US state with a unicameral legislature? -- No. Too easy.

Uhh.. What's the principal export of Tibet? -- No. Probably no longer true.

Uhh.. How did they get the news from Bruges to Ghent? -- No. Who reads poetry these days?

Uhh.. In 1956, the Dodgers' Carl Erskine pitched a no-hitter against the Giants. Who was the losing pitcher? Ah, who the hell cares anymore?

Uhh.. Who said "Much can be made of a Scotchman if he be caught young?" Why do I bother?

You bother because somewhere, somehow, there must be a question that can be answered without direct knowledge, but that cannot be answered with a Google search. We haven't found it yet.

By the way, according to Cecil Adams, a woodchuck could chuck about 700 pounds of wood, based on the amount of dirt it throws out of its burrow.

The Straight Dope: How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
(I hope the link is correct; can't get there through the filter while I'm at school.)

Didn't Adams say BEER? Beer, being about 10% alcohol would skew those numbers I would think.

Also, (bonus points for who said it) "How many green chinese pots in a dozen?"
