Skin bleaching cream couple fined

BBC NEWS | UK | England | London | Skin bleaching cream couple fined
Quote:
A couple believed to have earned £1m selling toxic skin lightening creams were ordered by a court to pay nearly £100,000 in fines and costs.

Why do people (despite all the advances made in race relations) and in particular African women, still believe that having lighter skin is better?

Regardless of a cosmetic's debatable desirablity, why wasn't the fine higher than the profit?

Yeah, a 900,00 pound profit after damages sounds like an ecouraging business model to emulate. Perhaps the UK, like Ohio, is trying to remain "small business friendly".

My question is, why didn't the punishment include making them use their own product?

well the profits were probably seized in addition to the fine. profits from illegal business are usually seized and thats not including any fine that might be levied.

Since when is this true? Last I checked it was white women who go to tanning salons and by tanning creams to make themselves darker.

So maybe the most universally attractive skin color is in between black and white - tanned. That's not racist...its just physical taste.

Light ones want to be dark and dark ones want to be light, eh? Sounds to me the most popular skin tone would be "not yours".

Not a day goes by that I don't see something that reinforces my belief that people are idiots.

yes, ive wondered about this for so long. i guess people in general always want what they cant have. Me on the other hand, am perfectly fine with my very pale skin.

Its amazing to what lengths some people would go to not look like themselves.
