Volconvo's Most Profound Statements

This thread is for posting those quotes, even out-of-context quotes, that you think are very poignant, profound, ring true, etc.

We're all so quick to ridicule each other, it wouldn't hurt to compliment each other either, would it?

I'll start...

I would say those vets who are not the "kill 'em all" types don't much care for George Bush or his policies.

Vietnam left so any damaged souls, on all sides of the political equation. I know those who basically still have that "destroy the village to save it" mentality, and those who fail to see there may be, on rare occasions, times when we must go to war. Unfortunately the last ones are mostly right in their assessment that war is a meat grinder that serves corporations and politicans well, but true freedom and humanity as a whole quite poorly.
profound? it's a good start at least.

the poor need to become as educated as they can within their ability and stop acting poor. Work to get one nice outfit to go on interviews. Clean up the grammar and language. Speak clearly. Get a low paying job that can give you a reference. These are small steps, but if everybody did it, we'd have less unemployment, and really happier people, because people who are working are happier, even if it's a bad job. It makes you productive.
It really is that simple.

I have a couple great ones to add.

It is definitely not my imagination that Ohio has a 5.5% sales tax. The Matrix gets you one way or another, I geuss, huh?
I think he meant to say Borg, but his spirit was in the right place.

We`ve expanded protection and rights for animals, and that sure does reduce your choices for individual action targeting them. We will continue to do so. You are losing the battle one law at a time. Those beings already in the status quo just have to accept that as time goes by, other beings will be ushered in along with them for some basic rights of protection.
I love it when people wear their disrespect for basic citizen rights on their sleeve. Makes it easier for the natural IFF indicator.

We have become the Borg, and still the sheeple refuse to call it what it is, or admit why it came to be, because the life that the borg has bought their silence with, is a plush and comfortable life as long as you bend over and take it like the bitch it says you are, while it forces other equal bitches into submission through force you pay for.

If you claim that any knowledge requires an absolute knowledge of every possible universal outcome, then knowledge itself is impossible. If we need to know everything to decide on anything, then we do indeed know nothing.
I really liked this quote.

What makes a man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?

Eventually, we will either recognize this, or wear it as a boot on the neck, wondering why we didn't see it happening, with no voice or action ability left.
I read a lot of good stuff on volconvo.

I was going through threads on all the different sections and I think it's strange that people aren't more active in this thread. Are there any specific rules for posting in this thread?

Lol, profound statements are harder to find because usually some one finds something inaccurate or just "normal" about them...

I would like to see more profound statements. Perhaps we can create our own about random things

Then I, for one, will start to try to remember. Nice thing about being the new guy is I don't think I see everyone through biased eyes.

To my never-ending esteem and amazement Jon pointed to the football player and said calmly but intently, "Be very careful. I know Haiku." The jock apologized and turned around.
Priceless.

I thought this was a good quote...

BTW Kameameaculpa, I realize that since one should practice what one preaches that I am perhaps not the best choice to be pointing this out (and that the medium doesn't easily allow for it's apparent manifestation), but to the degree that one may muster all his forces of self restraint, there is some great body of evidence that the old saw about, "the less I say, the smarter I sound." is based on the experience of pretty much the whole of humanity.

I would alter it only slightly, to reflect my own experience that "the longer I think about it before replying, the less likely I am to proffer some ill-considered evidence of my own inanity".

In other words, the fast, kneejerk reparte' is not always the best way to ensure saving one the regret of displaying one's inadvertent shortcomings for all the world to see........again.

Might as well hit yer thumb with a hammer......
It's a great post about how to post.

Taking away rights from the mass of citizens, to protect the rights of the mass of citizens, makes no sense at all, no matter what the intentions.
This quote is not a specific address to any one discussion, but that's why I like it. Often, when I'm reading the arguments, I get lost in all the statistics and rhetoric. Osborns quote, is a litums test for what is being debated.
