I just listened to some of The Avalanches' other songs. They're actually pretty damn good. Very creative.. makes me sway.

I don`t think they were thinking anything when they or he/she wrote it. I think it was written as a "stream of conciousness."

It's called sampling.. in this case, very elaborate creative sampling.

Did you get thier album "Since I Left You"? All of the songs of the album are constructed from old 60's-80's movie quotes, which gives it the same interesting ambience inherent in the song in this video. Before that, they mostly did a rather unique form of rap music in thier concerts and albums.

That said, I'm glad you like them. They're a good band not only because they care about thier music, but because they are constantly chaning and critiquing thier own style- in fact, they were going to release a record in 2006 but thought it was too "rushed".

There seems to be a coherency in theme when it comes to the sampled words from different sources, so I think someone could derive meanings from the songs if they tried.
