It was .12. For a 200 pound man, this is = 6 drinks in one hour. That is pretty blasted.
The photos of the guy looked as if he was on Pluto. Mel Gibson's rant was despicable but I don't know anyone who is perfect, except maybe a few posters around here.

He drank, he got drunk, and he tailspinned into outrageous behavior that was not only linguistically offensive, but perhaps just as important, imo, he was driving a death machine at unreasonable speeds that was hurtling through space probably about to kill someone. Glad to see the Law got him before he did kill an innocent person(s).

I seem to remember the "Reverend" Jackson made some nasty comments about "Hymietown" and he was stone cold sober! Where is the similar outrage in this matter? Anti semetic comments, no matter if they are references to the holocaust or the Jewish population in general, all are equally offensive to me.

Mr Gibson could benefit from sensitivity training, as well as a good long stretch in the hospital to address his alcoholic weakness. Perhaps he could room with Robin Williams who had the courage and the intelligence to see he was heading over the edge and did something about it before he sucumbed to the disease's symptoms.

As for his sensitivity training, perhaps he and the "Reverend" Jackson could make a trip to Israel and work in a Kibbutz for a few months to humble them both in a equal manner.

Yet another talker of one thing, doer of another. Thanks for showing your "true colors" Mel.

LOL, you obviously don't drink much.

I find that the people condemning him quite amusing. They obviously lead very sheltered lives and have not indulged in the world of strong drink.

When people get drunk, and I speak from personal experiance, say all kinds of things they don't mean and do all kinds of things that on normal occassions would not even dream of doing. It depends on the drink as well, some drinks are more prone to make you angry, others cheerful, others depressed, etc. The drink Stella Artois, has been nick-named 'wife beater' after a scene from a film, but also because people drink it and then get into fights with people.

What disturbs me more is not what he said, but the fact that he is stupid enough to drink and drive, which is a mugs game if there ever was one.

So now you believe the crap magazines in the grocery store aisles over common sense? Did you know that he has apologized for his actions? Do you really think, that after a successful career, living a Christian faith that he would just spontaneously go nuts like that? There had to be alcohol involved, who are you kidding?
The only thing that amount of alcohol did was loosen his tongue, the hatred he harbored was there all along. He has a History of anti-gay remarks, he obviously demeans women, and the antisemitism wasn't just in his rantings that night, it's evident in the Passion of Christ. He can represent living a Christian life to you, to me he's a BIGOT, and so 5 minutes ago.

Well, I guess that makes the CHRISTIAN Reverend Jesse Jackson a "bigot" as well because his "hymietown remarks were delivered stone cold sober. Jackson is supposed to represent the living of a CHRISTIAN life, does he not? The implication here being he knew exactly what he was saying and meant every last CHRISTIAN word of it. And Jesse Jackson today, stands along side of some of the most prominent politicians, mostly Democrats, because they seek his annointment and approval. Conclusion: the Democrats, and any politician who entertains Jackson's presence, by association are bigots as well. Guilt by association, if you will.

Therefore, if we are going to include EVERYONE for bigotry who is indeed judged guilty of it, then let's make sure we include the politicans, et all, right along side of the media darlings.

Oh, he's just an actor and we-the-people pay his salary by seeing his movies. I've enjoyed most of his movies, what do I care what he says and does. He's just an actor, a very, very angry one at that. Mel should check that out with his psychiatrist. Anger can make us ill, and it's base is our parents.

For which he's apologized (though only he knows if he meant the apology or not). Alcohol makes many people say and do things they might not have with a clear head. So he's human. I find it hard to condemn a person for that. Is he a hypocrite? Perhaps. But I've never had much interest in his religious beliefs anyway, and I've not seen Passion nor do I intend to ( I really liked Mad Max, though).
Alcohol also brings out ones true feelings. The apology was a PR move. The apology was pretty moving and was heart-felt, but don't forget this guy is a very talented actor. This is what he is paid to do.

Brien,

The thread isn't going to play by play recount every stupid hateful remark any politician/minister/celebrity has ever made and in turn condemn each one...........there isn't room on the internet for such data, or the time to process it. As for Rev. Jackson, I'm not the guy to be his cheerleader, so tear him apart on a seperate thread, this one is focused on GIBSON, and the miserable piece of sh*t he is as both a man and an "actor."
I could name 20 actors in 2 minutes who have superior acting ability to Gibson, at best you could say about Gibson's career is it is largely FORGETABLE!

It's been my experience they usually DO mean what they say. It's just their self control prevents them from saying some things. And when you are drunk, self control is one of the first things to go.

A LOT of people have prejudices but they usually keep a cap on them, either to be polite or not get their asses kicked.

A lesson to be learned. ALWAYS drink with friends!

Not a day goes by that I don't see something that reinforces my belief that people are idiots.

Yea, I understand what you are writing here, but when I see people jump all over one man, and give a free pass to guys like Jackson and Sharpton, (The Jew Interloper remark in Harlem), I feel it is important to point inconsistences like this out.

Anti semetism is almost as ingrained in the US as racism experienced by African Americans. It is quite common and I have seen its ugly side in America in all of my reality during my 55 years on the planet. So when I see Gibson outing himself as an anti semite, I feel compelled to look at the underlying causes and understand that he is onlly one person in a sea of Anti Semitism here in the US, and probaly around the world.

I am no fan of Mel Gibson, although I did enjoy his portrayal of William Wallace, but I never bothered with his Passion of Christ simply because I wasn't interested. In fact, if you have read my posts, and I think you do, I feel that most of Follywood should run back into the woodwork, because when the lights are on, they act in the exact opposite of the manner in which most really are, cockroaches.

Even worse, the hysteria pointed at "conservative christians" from hwood and the left in general. If such invective were pointed at any other group (including the muslim terrorists) hwood and the left would be on war footing. Tolerance to any group, but white christian men, apparently. No wonder the Dems have lost the working class vote.

A lot of the time, maybe. However, booze makes one emotional, and when people are emotional minus the drink, they say stuff they don't mean. Add the drink factor and people come out will all sorts of crap they don't mean.

The real crime here is the theft of Sadam Hussains beard by Mel Gibson, wheres the public outcry about that?

Really UB, you are being unfair to ole' Mel. He is not a drunken bigot all the time. I'm sure he is sober, now and then.

You know, I find it interesting that when Mel Gibson screws up once, the average public who buys those junk magazines in the grocery store aisles (like you) go absolutely nuts!. The other celebrities are sleeping around, having children out of marriage, divorcing umpteen times, making racial slurs, etc.And no-one really notices, it's ordinary. So when Gibson, who's been good, messes up everyone hates him. See the irony?

Mel Gibson hasn't just "screwed up" ONCE, he's made offensive remarks about gays for 2 decades, and his Passion Of The Christ was anti-semetic, and he also is a sexist bast*rd too, or did the Sugar Tits remark strike you as respectful of women?

Yes. But the reactions we see are partly due to his posturing as a solid religious type, and his movie "Passion".
Those who set themselves up as some sort of example usually get treated worse than others when they fail to maintain their own image.
