I'll tell you: Nobody gives a fuck about people in places like that. No kidding US television news on the Levant is censored. But this censorship goes far beyond the war in Lebanon. (Another oustanding example of mass civilian killing -- hundreds of thousands of people in fact -- that is almost totally ignored by the West is in the so-called "Democratic Republic of the Congo". Monstrous and ghastly.) None of this lets Israel off the moral hook for its excessive -- and cowardly -- campaign that has killed so many innocents from the safety of the air. Shame on you. Darfur - it is also for Oil . The area has vast oil deposit and so Zanzabi's are trying to grab it while the west is trying to support the popular movement. People are dyeing en masse because of this dirty war. I don't have any such letters with me - if I had one I would have posted . Chechnya - again Oil. The Russians are trying to slaughter the whole nation only to grab the oil and land ( to control the central Asean oil deposit transit pipeline ). Burma - There's no such killings , I hope. It's being ruled by a terrible regime but the regime is not so brutal ( maniacal ) as the Israeli's. They are driving out the Muslims , systematically destroying their earning scopes. Here, in Bangladesh, we have huge refugees from Burma and the Mullahs are exploiting their anger . But you see, in almost all the conflicts - Muslims are suffering because of oil or strategic control ( Kashmir ). D.R. Congo , Rwanda - I don't know how to explain the pain while watching BBC reports . These reports must be mandatory to watch by all - too see the effect of our consumerism , our lust for luxury . These letters - if those were from Hezbullah ; I'm sure CNN / FOX would have showing them every 5 minutes interval.

I know the regime is destroying blocks after blocks to remake the cities ( copying the Chinese ) , Aung sun suchi is imprisoned but not that much as it sounds. We are neighbors to Burma , I have a friend ( pro democracy student leader , fled the country to avoid torture and prison ) whom I managed to get Bangladeshi citizenship - he never told me such brutal atrocities ! Also, I think the democracy in Burma might not work - other than Suchi, most of them may not be capable enough to run it towards prosperity. The regime too failed to bring prosperity even though it has huge land, gas and oil, minerals and tourism prospect.

Burma (I appreciate and admire the way a lot of organizations, including the BBC, refuse to call it Myanmar) looks like a hopeless mess. One factor is its hodge-podge of ethnic groups ruled over by the ruthless Burmans. Yet until the early Sixties it was considered the potentially wealthiest country in Asia. The regime looks pretty much like the maniacs ( Idi Amin or so ) but they are not as blood thirsty as the Isarelis.
