Pole dancing

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4939752.stm

Is it a legitimate way of keeping fit, or are the women who are learning it doing so to please men ( and are therefore being exploited)?

And on-topic....it can be both. I've got friends who've learnt to pole dance, belly dance, etc....they tend to look at it as keeping fit in a sexy way - and besides, if it leads to more fun in the bedroom - why not?

Titillating subject. Only skinny women should take up pole dancing. The chubs should learn kick-boxing.

I disagree with your suggestion that anything a woman does to please a man is equivalent to exploitation of that woman.

Men bathe and comb their hair. Men put on deodorant. Men wear clothes that match, occasionally. Do they do this because of their dedication to fashion and good hygiene? If they could get women without chaning out of their pajamas, do you think they'd still wear Nordstrom suits?

As someone who doesn't know what he's talking about, I'd say the "experts" in this article are ignorant, and do not addresss the benefits the program has to the students.

The feminist seems to think it's wrong for a woman to learn something that might please a man. Or, they're too naive to realize bending at the waist might be considered titilating. What if it was lesbian pole-dancing, is that still exploitive? I think a reader who posted below the article says it best.

Quote:
I regularly participate in pole dancing classes, because they are a lot more fun than lifting weights in the gym. The sense of achievement I get when I master a new trick is also something I've never experienced in any other kind of exercise class. II think it's the environment in which most people watch pole dancing that's seedy, not the activity itself. Watching a great pole dancer is on a par with watching a great gymnast or dancer from any other discipline. And as for those people who are equating it with prostitution, it's not that long ago that the acting profession was synonymous with prostitution. Times change. - Helen, London

Both, I suspect. From everything I've read/heard, it's a legitimate excercise that works the arms, legs and abdomen, and is quite affective. It probably also gives women a sense of being graceful and sexy. If it pleases men, what's the harm? I try to do little things to please women. Am I being exploited?

.

The Poles have every right to dance. So do the Czechs and Uzbecks for that matter.
