Would you have protected sex with someone HIV positive?

I am watching a movie, in which there is an HIV positive woman. She meets a guy she likes, one assumes she's going to hold him off or tell him and he'll hold off.

Her friend tells him. He comes prepared with condom and tells her it's no big deal.

From a female standpoint, I cannot imagine this. But transmission is difficult from female to male, and perhaps you (mostly male pop. here) would feel safe from it?

If your answer is yes, would you for a one night stand? A woman you loved?

Uhh.

No...

And I don't play chicken in the pickup with my construction buddies either...

Why should I gamble with my life??

No. I wouldn't have sex with an HIV positive person, even if it were my wife. If we wanted children, I'd have my semen implanted. I'd still have some sort of sexual intercourse with my wife, naturally, but actual vaginal penetration with my penis? I don't think so.

Well, that's what I think but even though this is a movie, I guarantee it happens in real life.

People gamble everyday having unprotected sex, and I bet a male would be pretty protected by a condom.

Men are surprisingly cavalier about STD's. I have a friend with herpes, and she went on a tear of sleeping with a bunch of guys in college. She told all of them, and many still didn't want to use a condom, and many revealed that they had it or something else too. It was clear they weren't going to reveal that until she revealed hers.

That really scared me!!!

When men tell me they are careful, I am like 'OK, sure...'

What a great idea. "Hey, I have herpes. Are you stupid enough to sleep with me?" "Yes." "Okay, now I can satisfy my lust and put other peoples' health at risk! Whee!"

Sorry, but I just don't like sluts. And I really don't like sluts with STDs.

Hey - she was up-front. She insisted on condoms even when they didn't want them. Why can't a woman sow her oats like men do w/o being called a slut?

These men were worse - they weren't even going to disclose.

Plus, female sluts with STDs got them from male sluts with STDs! I hope you hate them too.

Actually, she got it from a scumbag who abused her and used her infection to further beat down her self-esteem and convince her that no one else would ever be with her.

He was a ho, too. There was a group of guys at our work who I guess had slept with the same women so they all had it.

I sure dodged a bullet being celibate, because I had a massive crush on one cutie in that group before I knew how they were!!!

The answer would be a resounding no, and transmission from female to male is not that difficult, there is a far higher incidence of top-down transmission yes, but bottom-up transmission is still a major risk. Maybe double-gloving might help, but I still would nae run the risk.

No, I wouldn't do it. Nobody is that hot, and if you truly want the relationship, sex isn't THAT important.

But, the way you phrased it, it does make a great intelligence test. If they ARE stupid enough to sleep with you, go ahead and sell them condos in Florida.

And while I also don't like sluts with STDs, I am fond of sluts with BMWs.
It's all a matter of perspective I guess.

I've had two relationships with HIV- men in the twenty years I've been POZ. They had all information to make informed decisions. Each lasted more than a year, and we practised safer sex, both are still HIV-. My current lover is POZ too, and that does simplify dating process.

no, and i'm thankful that i won't ever have to make that choice.. (i'm awfully happy and content with the girl i have and don't need anyone else.)

risking being infected with HIV is not worth it imo, even if the sex would've been excellent.

hope for america...

People gamble everyday having unprotected sex.
People also smoke cigarettes, drive way over the speed limit, wolf down another spare rib, buy a hummer when the glaciers are melting like crazy, talk on the phone when there's a thunderstorm just outside, etc. etc.

And you know why? Because It Can't Happen To Me.

I know. I remember someone commenting that we must all believe no one has HIV, because if we really feard they might, we wouldn't engage even with protection.

That is the most backassward statement ever, that is exactly how this disease will spread, and kill MORE!

It is a bigger challenge to reach youth (both gay and straight), because youths think they are 10 ft tall and bullet proof, and without huge amounts of dead and dying being seen, they ignore the danger........and the number of new cases reflect that, add the carelessness meth and extasy promote,(but drunkeness does a pretty good job to promote carelessness all by itself,) and it's disasterous.

Why would you do that? You have a chance of passing the disease on to the kid.
