Power and Obedience

I'm doing a poll based on Alex Comfort's views on power and obedience.
Please answer the question as honestly as possible.

With all due respect, I find your poll to be problematic. First off, you are not sufficiently specific in the question. Who are you referring to when you say "the desire for obedience"? Those who want to obey, or those who want to be obeyed? Second, I consider the possible answers to be inadequate, as I do not agree with any of them.

I answered as I did due to the limitation of choices. As with most polls, its pretty vague and not really representative across the board.

I will still play along though.

That about sums it up, and, like Osborn, I'll play along as well.

i'd like to steal a neat quote by mr. orwell to answer this question...

"The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means, it is an end. How does one man assert his power over another. By making him suffer. Obedience is not enough. Unless he is suffering, how can you be sure that he is obeying your will and not his own? Power is inflicting pain and humiliation. A world of fear and treachery and torment, a world of trampling and being trampled upon, a world which will grow not less but more merciless as it refines itself. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face - forever."

Depends on who you would like, or not like, to obey - or to have obey you.
Obedience is a screwed up word. Nobody should aspire to be obedient. Sounds like a cult religion

Strange Poll

An acceptance of the domination of others

Obedience isnt particulary about domination, it could also be about smart thinking.

Childhood behavior (security of status via submission)

We can still be obedient as adults??

A means of reconciling sadism

Dont get it!

A positive duty, inculcated by tradition

This one was closest for me - Obedience realtes more to performance, performing well, is a postive duty for me.

How about that?
