Who are you referring to when you say "the desire for obedience"? Those who want to obey, or those who want to be obeyed? Second, I consider the possible answers to be inadequate, as I do not agree with any of them. - Rob "I'd rather be free and alive!" -- Ron Paul Religion isn't the greatest threat to mankind -- authoritarianism is. I will still play along though. That about sums it up, and, like Osborn, I'll play along as well. | |

| trendsetter Location: cleveland Posts: 317 | i'd like to steal a neat quote by mr. orwell to answer this question... "The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means, it is an end. How does one man assert his power over another. By making him suffer. Obedience is not enough. Unless he is suffering, how can you be sure that he is obeying your will and not his own? Power is inflicting pain and humiliation. A world of fear and treachery and torment, a world of trampling and being trampled upon, a world which will grow not less but more merciless as it refines itself. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face - forever." |

Childhood behavior (security of status via submission) We can still be obedient as adults?? A means of reconciling sadism Dont get it! A positive duty, inculcated by tradition This one was closest for me - Obedience realtes more to performance, performing well, is a postive duty for me. How about that? |
