Indeed... some of my favorite scenes from
'Ghost in the Shell' are when we watch 'the Major' simply stare for several seconds at ... whoever ... while we hear another, off-camera character's voice sizing up the situation. Saves lots of animation, but at the same time, and knowing a bit about the Major's character, I found it emotionally powerful.
