Dog mauls cat -- girls react hysterically

Today in Seattle, Washington, an unidentified husky dog chased and attacked a black cat on 19th Avenue. The dog's accomplice was a small terrier, who was seen accompanying the attacker. Said witnesses, the dogs chased the cat from a front yard where it was napping in the sun onto the roof of a garage down the hill. The cat leapt off the roof and gained a momentary advantage by hiding in some brush while the dogs circled around to search for it. However, the dogs caught sight of the cat moving back up the hill and cornered it in a pile of junk, where the cat made its last stand. The husky dog is reported to have seized the cat by the neck, and "brutally, yet playfully" shook the cat with apparent intent of breaking its neck. It was at this point that the girlfriend of one shocked onlooker, Morgan Freeman, intervened, chasing the dog into the road where it abandoned the cat. Witnesses report that the cat laid immobile, its legs moving slightly in the air.
M. Freeman's girlfriend immediately grabbed the cat and jumped into a car full of concerned sorority girls. They brought the cat to the nearest vetrinarian's office, where the cat was admitted to intensive care.
Onlookers seemed shocked, yet philosophical, about the day's events. Said witness Morgan Freeman, "I always wondered what would happen when a dog actually caught a cat. On television, the cat always gets away.." And later, "That's nature in action I guess. Cats kill mice without an ounce of regret. I guess this is the other side of the coin."

Is this some cynical, ironic poke at what most people think constitute news these days, or do you genuinely think theres actually some value to this story?

It sounds like a real story that happened to MF and he put it in a news format. My father's chow did this in front of me. I was sitting in the swing, enjoying the fresh air, and all of a sudden the dog committed murder of a stray cat. I hit the dog with a stick, trying to get it to let go, but the cat was done for.

That's how I got one of my cats, too. Some dogs killed the mom and the rest of the litter before the police stopped them, and I adopted the only survivor.

I felt like sharing. I find cynicism fatally destructive, so I avoid it at all costs.

definitely entertaining. I don't know what the mods will think of this appearing in the breaking news section, though.

Won't be there for long, I reckon. Not a bad piece though, writing-wise.

While I like cats and dogs, this is natures way.

Yeah really. The cat gets off scott free, but the dog "should be put down".

Ok, I appriciate the whole nod to nature and stuff but...

We have domesticated both cats and dogs and as owners have obligations to provide care for them. Care equals food, shelter and some level of security. Though I would never advocate putting down a dog who responded to his/her nature and gave chase and perhaps rendered said cat "gone", I would advocate maybe having said dog's owner chased by a grizzley bear and mauled, as is natural as well. Anyone have a problem with that?

That would be a sample of deadly sarcasm, for those who don't know it when you read it.

Tell me, could that be you?

I don't think that a dog killing a cat is the same as a cat killing a mouse.

I have seen a dog chase a cat before, when the cat was cornered, the dog made the foolish mistake of still attacking it. The cat, turned and clawed the dog around the face, to the accompaniment of a veritable orchestra of hissing and yelping.

Some cats are hard core.

Society may be formed so as to exist without crime, without poverty, […] no obstacle whatsoever intervenes at this moment except ignorance to prevent such a state of society.

Why not?
Because Cat's are pure evil. You watch them take down a bird or a mouse. They will torture the thing for ages, catching it then letting it go, then catching it in the other paw. They play with their food before they kill it.

A dog however usually just grabs it by the neck and shakes the life out of it till it's gone.
