| Sedimentary Rock Posts: 20 | Hi there, all ya'll! I can't believe there are so many people in here from Texas! I am speaking from South Texas. While we are a wildly divergent, rowdy, opinionated state, we are not generally known for our intelligent disscussion of the issues. I will be intersted to see how we come off to such a cosmopolitian audience. I am turning 35 (I think--I can never add the years right) soon. I am happily (mostly :>))) married with two small kiddos. I am a radical independant. Generally vote Democrat but I am a physical conservative. (and one of the worst spellers in the world--I try to use spell check but when my computer starts giving me fits I forget about it--I am also a ludite) Sorry to sound critical (being new and all) but I am not very impressed with the conversations so far (the abortion thread being an exception--pretty civil). The reason I am not too thrilled with the conversations, not because of civility--for the most part it looks pretty civil. I have neither the time nor patience to wade through tons of posts to get the "jist" of the topic. Maybe you could start summerizing some of them? I don't know how you would do that but you asked what would make me come here weekly--and that is it. I want a quick overview of as many topics as possible so that I can read some good replies in 5-10 minutes and then post. Maybe start a summary thread that only moderators can post to with a number of "highlights" from the past week? After I get to know everyone a little better I will post my "manifesto" :>)) So far the title is something to the effect of "Why I will no longer debate stupid people." By stupid I mean ignorant in the classical sense. I haven't read too many stupid posts here so I am hopeful that I will get to meet and exchange ideas with other open-minded, clever folks. Not that I care whether or not people disagree with me but for godsakes give me a logical argument as to why you think I'm full of shit!:>))) --imp |

| Molten Ash Posts: 40 | I am a Sri Lankan living in Germany. Age 31, female. Working as a Software Engineer. I started www.moondusk.com among friends sometime ago, but it was not that successful because most of them were just visitors rather than active participants. If you are interested you are welcome to add book reviews, poetry, articles at moondusk.com. I think volconvo had made it very well with 'heated debats'. |

| Hot Lava Location: Glendale, Queens, New York Posts: 970 | Oh well, I guess I'm the oldest so far, and live in Queens, New York. My name is Philip, I'm a 64-Year old Disabled American Veteran (USAF), and retired at 62. Got sick and tired of corporate America with all the lies, unkept promises, backstabbing, etc. I have a Bachelor of Science in Business Management / Human Resources, an Associate of Science in Accounting / Computerized MIS, and 40 years business management experience. I have been married 42 years this November to a wonderful woman from Cambridge, England. My father came from Italy, my mother from Massachusetts (English, Scotch and Native American Iriquois Indian background). My wife and I have 4 children (41, 35, 21 and 18) and 3 grandchildren. Now to some of you who have posted: Fenix and Nexa: What part of New York? Utah: You and I seem to be the only Vets, did you see any combat? How was your experience? Jeanne: I can understand you being an atheist, however, I knew a few in combat, and I can tell you as soon as we were in an intense fire fight they were soon praying to God. I guess the saying "There is no such thing as an atheist in a foxhole" is true. I feel sorry for you as it would seem that you have really nothing to believe in except for yourself. Since you raised your kids as atheists too, remember that all your screwups are part of their upbringing as well. Nicole: So you are a Republican - congratularions on the right choice. How do you like politics? A Republican - Conservative - PRO-ACTIVE HAWK with compassion For God & Country - To Serve, Defend & Protect Lock & Load - Go In Hot - Praise the Lord & pass the ammunition |

Not sure how Sean got my e-mail either; however it appears that he did a good job in selecting mainly males for his forum. I feel uncomfortable among so many male posters, I find most of the views here dipped in too much testosterone. COMPETITION BRINGS THE BEST IN PRODUCTS AND THE WORST IN RELATIONSHIPS. |

I certainly do not see the world in the way (many) men - especially the kind that hang out on this forum - see it or the way they are raised to see it. Not only because of gender differences but also because of cultural differences (most people around here are from anglo cultures; I am not anglo). And I also do not happen to believe in "changing minds by argumentation". It never happens. The human mind is not meant to be "changed"/"turned around" by argumentation and logic. I know men love "logics" and "clear-cut, dry stuff"...but the world, life and people's lived experiences are not made of "logical words" and "dry stuff". They are made of things you see and things you don't see, things you can prove and things you cannot, things you can express and things you cannot. If I debate/post something is simply because I feel like not keeping my mouth shut in that moment, more like a knee-jerk reaction, a "feel good" sensation. By no means do I believe that by bringing in my "female" viewpoint I am going to modify anything in a man's mind. As I said, there are a lot of men on this forum; the few women I have seen seem to think along the lines of "not challening anything of what a man tends to believe in". This is probably the reason why they fit in. I don't fit in here...but somehow I landed the place because Sean sent me the e-mail. And then, you know...you get "hooked" and post away like an idiot even though nobody really wants to hear those things you have to say. But I'll probably stick around for a while. Nice to know everyone. COMPETITION BRINGS THE BEST IN PRODUCTS AND THE WORST IN RELATIONSHIPS. | |

exactly. Men go around acting like kings until women let them know they are not, and men love for us to do that for some reason. "...with like-minded people one cannot discuss.
