| Sedimentary Rock Posts: 12 | Well, I am a 14 year old Male currently preparing for the assured horrors of high school. I currently reside in Westchester of New York State (southern NY, rather close to NYC). My interests are in Literature, Language, and Psychology and I plan on attending college and earning a dual degree in Comparitive Literature and Psychology. My hobbies include riding and tennis, although I'm very terrible at the latter :p As for socio-political views, I have as yet not developed any clear-cut ideas of my own. Although I am somewhat of a cynic myself, from what I gather it seems that if one was to travel down that road it is the existence of such a concept as cynisim that motivates 95% of human action, not the concept itself. A tricky way of creating an excuse for yourself :p |

| Igneous Magma Location: New Zealand Posts: 309 | I'm Geoff (which you may have guessed). I'm 31 and currently (temporarily?) in New Zealand. I've spent most of the last four years in London and travelling -- primarily around Europe and the US. Before that, I spent a fair amount of time getting (over) educated. I've got a reasonable education in philosophy (primarily via cognitive science, so it focuses on things like epistemology and reasoning, although I've read a lot of the classics as well); I'm pretty well up on the philosophy of science; I guess I'm self educated in geo-politics. I've dabbled in most of the social science, most often in aspects of psychology and sociology. Positioning myself is tricky. Conservatives tend to call me 'liberal'. liberals call me 'conservative'. Idealists think I'm a 'pragmatist'; realists reject me as a hopeless 'idealist'. I tend to get impatient with sloppy thinking, especially black and white (over)simplifications that tend to serve dominate the polarisation (and consequent dumbing down) of issues. I'm a Christian who thinks the 'moral majority' is neither. I'm an atheist who tracks the moral downfall of society. On some issues I take an absolutist position; on others, I am a relativist of the worst kind. When I'm not spending too much time here, I dance (which I was doing earlier this evening); watch rugby (both union and league), football (aka soccer for those who decided to rename things), and Formula 1; I'm an amatuer film buff; I love to travel; I tend to spend a little too much time in pubs with friends -- either eating or drinking. |

| Igneous Magma Location: New York City Posts: 739 | I'm a 19 year old (20 next month) male from NYC, currently in a leave of absence from Cornell where I was a Urban Planning major. I'm a self-described democratic socialist, and I ran ranters.net until the webmaster got lazy. =p . . . whenever any government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute a new government, laying its foundations on such principles and organizing its powers in such forms as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness. |
