No offense to any christians but I don't like the "followers" and "servants" latin term. How diverse is this group going to be? I think you should try a name like "Theologists"? That's more like a study of religion and its impact on life. Where all religions are involved.

The smilies are Paavo's I think. They are sooo ugly that they are kinda cute, IMO.

How about simply "The Theists"? The word "religion" implies organized worship, which excludes many types of theistic beliefs. I think our commonality stems from a belief in a higher power.

I don't like the latin because new people would not know what it meant.

I don't like "Spiritually Minded" because some religious/theistis types don't nescessrily have spirits (ie holy ghost or dead ancestors) as part of thier religion.

Though you use it as a term of derision, I think any honest religious person has to admit that it is an apt description of our beliefs.

However, I think "theists" is just fine, especially since it doesn't have the negative connotations assosciated with "supernaturalist".

I appreciate that. Thank you. [refering to "Theologists"]

"The Theists" only connotes that we believe in a god or gods. I think as a group, I myself will be exploring all religions. Perhaps it would help to know exactly what this group is for. Are we talking about religions with open minds? Or are we talking about specific teachings? Or is it everything to do with religion from its formation, to philosophies, etc.

    I like the latter.

Theology: The study of the nature of God and religious truth; rational inquiry into religious questions.

Even theology implies a god. Maybe the reason I don't like theology is because it for some reason has an implicitly christian connotation.

I see what you are looking for - something that allows for philosophy as well as God. But I still think that god needs to be a defining feature. After all, that is the main motivation for the group, so we can discuss religion without obnoxioux atheists butting in and telling us that our discussion is supurfluous because god dosen't exist.

If the name is to imply god, I stil think "theists" is best because if has a much more inclusive connotation that theology.

But whatever you all want - it's not a big deal.

Starboy - calm the hell down. Your knee-jerk reactions are getting ridiculous. I stated that I agreed it was an accurate name. I agreed that an honest person would consider it appropriate.

Why do you feel the need to rant in here about it when I have already awknowledged it?

Because if you were being honest you would have to admit that there are no more negative connotations with supernatural than there are with theist. What is negative is the fact that theists or supernaturalist or whatever you want to call them use explanations for reality that even they would not accept if they were to be suggested in any other context.

I am being perfectly honest. What I was saying is that though I was fine with it, my fellow theists would probably not be because of the connotation the word carries.

Why are you even in this thread. No one here cares what you have to say. This is a discussion about forming a group you are not interested in.
