fushigi, just curious and you don't have to answer; but I can't help wondering what has you in China? You don't appear to be native.

What brings me here? Opportunity. I studied Chinese for a few years, then a former professor helped me get involved with a Chinese company. We do all kinds of corporate investigations: risk management, fraud investigations, due diligence, counter-espionage, that kind of thing. We're pretty good at it, too - my bosses are a former CIA bureau chief and China's former head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; with these connections and security clearance we can do just about anything.

Any of you who work for companies investing in China, give me a shout.

In February, Wal-Mart acquired the Trust-mart chain of 101 hypermarkets in a deal estimated to be worth $1 billion. Other international retailers investing in China include Carrefour, Auchan, Watson, Tesco and Metro.

Chris, the Carrefours and Walmarts here in Beijing are so packed with people I don't even shop at them anymore. You literally cannot walk all the way down an aisle without having to squeeze your body between a pack of 4-5 Chinese. And Chinese don't seem to have any moral proscriptions against slamming their carts into you rather than say, "excuse me" to get through.
