| Citizen #21521 Posts: 2,599 | Sometimes I wish I live in a socialist country... Uggh, I'm feeling so lazy today. I know I've got work to do, but I just feel like telling my clients to piss off and sit on my ass for a few months. Technically I should be able to claim welfare, just fire myself from the company then re-hire myself after a few months, but unfortunately China doesn't give out free money. Damn...wouldn't it be nice if I lived in a socialist country for a few months, sat around on my ass, and get paid for it? Say, maybe Norway will accept me as a citizen for a few months. I could do with a quick vacation funded by European taxpayers ![]() Ideological loyalty is the act of giving your soul to a vague concept, to be manipulated by people smarter than you. |

And you'd pay through the nose for alcohol & rent! I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered. -George Best, on being asked what he did with his footballing fortunes. |

For example, I recall recently I was being lectured on the evils of socialist France. France, socialist?! You have got to be kidding, France is not and never has been a socialist country, and they have a mixed economy, just like the vast majority of western nations. Society may be formed so as to exist without crime, without poverty, […] no obstacle whatsoever intervenes at this moment except ignorance to prevent such a state of society. Robert Owen |

(laid off on 1 MAR) While looking for a job in my relevant field. I can clearly tell the difference between communism and socialism. What better place for a vacation then getting a cheque sent to you every week while lounging around on a beach? However if necessary, I can always pretend to find a job :) Ideological loyalty is the act of giving your soul to a vague concept, to be manipulated by people smarter than you. |

And there are people on this board who accuse Dubbya of being a "socialist" (I ain't kiddin). To them, Chris already lives in a socialist country. Socialism is like Christianity -- sort of an unattainable ideal you have to keep struggling toward against human nature. (And isn't defying our caveman nature what civilization is all about?) | Citizen #21521 Posts: 2,599 | Well I live in Australia, I pay taxes to the Australian government, and I hire Australian workers (talk about negative outsourcing!), but unfortunately I'm not a citizen, so I don't get any free money like the other welfare bums do. You can get pretty much the same things in the US and enjoy a better climate too. And if you know another language besides English, you shouldn't have any problem here. But, honestly, do you really want to go through that much trouble to not have to work? You sound pretty successful, don't you have fun at your job? |
