Is it bad that my ignore list > friends list?

My ignore list runs the gamut from posters apparently incapable of anything but zero punctuation text walls to clever "greased pig" debaters. The latter are characterized by twisting and turning their statements so that you can never get a good grip on them or pin them down to anything.

Generally I really try to engage these people before adding them to my ignore list but lately my patience seems to be flagging. For awhile I even tried to simply skip over their comments but found myself reading them anyway and suffering the inevitable loss of brain cells. Occasionally I'll read one of their comments when quoted by another member and every time it seems my decision to ignore is vindicated.

Still, it kinda bothers me that my ignore list is longer than my friends list. If you have any sympathy for me perhaps you could request to be my friend?

What does it take to make your ignore list?

*checks to see if I'm still on Peter's "friends" list*

Ahh...ignore lists. A tool in my arsenal I'm no longer allowed to use.

That's a pity. That you can't use the ignore list, not that we're friends...

What does it take to make your ignore list?
Incredible hostility to anyone and everyone, and subsequently not being infracted/banned. Inability to type in English, even judging with lax standards. Incessant and constant attempts to derail threads into topics like anarchism, and the obvious comparisons to broken records that go along with it. Unwillingness to post anything of substance.

Generally just things that, if I allowed into my sight, would contribute to my eventual banning.

A man said to the universe:
    "Sir, I exist!"
    "However," replied the universe,
"The fact has not created in me
    A sense of obligation."

Psychology simply refers to it as denial. Sometimes the truth is too painful to face so a common solution is to simply hide our heads in the sand...or, make an ignore list.

There is only one right answer and, yet, you still argue with me..

I never understood friends lists. What are we supposed to do with them? Are we supposed to maintain some kind of regular intercourse?

As a community of debaters, a "friends list" can act as a privacy setting similar to that on Facebook. For example, my photos and profile page are limited to those on my list but anyone can send me a PM. How you utilize yours is up to you.

If I put everyone I disagree with on 'ignore' I'd not be able to talk to many people here, where the problem tends to be that almost everyone, from our point of view, seems to be considerably to the right of Genghiz Khan, and criticising him as a 'liberal', which they seem to regard as a terrible swearword rather than a rather archaic term for nineteenth century political positions. I like arguing, but beyond a certain point it gets like being stuck in a bar with a lot of very drunken persons who believe they are Great Thinkers, and might well be if they could recall how to think.

The ignore feature removes your ability to view the posts of the person you put on ignore, unless they've been quoted by someone else. What it does not do is remove their ability to view your posts. (just in case you were wondering)

    Who just wrote that?

....Looks for ignore feature…puts everyone on ignore….has blank page…patiently waits for someone to quote someone.

    AHA!

So am I on your ignore list Peter?
Waits….c’mon someone quote me so Peter gets this message…is everyone ignoring me?

Okay....So... Maryjane, is there a feature that I can just check mark everyone’s name to be my friend instead of individually? Oh, and could you quote my entire post in your response?
