    Open debate offer

I'm an Eighteen year old Australian Catholic who is looking to debate anyone on any issue to do with religion, morality or ethics. I'm willing to defend the religious stand point on any issue. Just name your topic and the rules will be as follows.

    Day 1 : Opening statement (600 words)
    Day 2 : Reply speech (400 words)
Day 3: Second reply speech (400 words) Invitation for questions open
Day 4: 3 Questions from other forum members each
Day 5: Final summery (200 words)
Day 6: Feed back Given buy other posters.

Volconvo isn't that structured. Just go ahead and post whatever you'd like to argue about, or start posting in an existing thread.

Also if you have to debate religion... don't. No one here who will agree with your basic premises is smart enough to tie their own shoes.

The more you complain, the less I care about your problems.

Thanato's right about the nature of this board, but I'm game if you want to try, young master Leachy. This is your idea, so go ahead and pick a topic and which of us goes first, and we'll see how it works out.

Boring! Less formal = more provocative.

Not necessarily. Granted, the board format is designed to be open ended, allowing an unlimited number of participants into a fast moving discussion that could conceivably go on indefinitely. Much more in tune with the nature of the Internet itself.

But having participated in the same format for some time now, the confines of Leachy's offer intrigues me. Alas, I suspect such a structured format might only be fun for the two involved, but... who knows?

It's like my own world of art and graphic design. More often than not, the tightest restrictions inspire the most creative solutions.

Leachy, please state what you'd like to debate about.

    OK.

I'm not thrilled with that format (haven't done it since college... long ago), it's more suitable to a short, prepared debate in front of an audience that cannot participate.

But I'd debate that morality doesn't come from a deity but from society. Let me know if you're up for it. It won't take long.

    .

And I'll debate that morality - and religious belief - are instincts hardwired into the brains of Homo Sapien by evolution.

But go ahead, Master Leachy... you pick.

I like the structured methods as well as the informal. I'll choose morality, but I probably won't get my opening statement out today.

You'll have to tell me what issue on morality we're talking about though - are we debating the origins of morality, whether or not non-religious people can have morals, how morals are tied/not tied to religion etc...

    Open debate offer: late

Hey! I just posted my views on this topic, then found this offer a minute later.

I've never done one of these debates, so I'm not sure how it works. Anyway, my position is summed up in the post "How we cherry-pick religious values".
