i think being a great debater is to the indivdual... because weather or not u can sell the idea that u think ur right, doesnt really matter on this site. but practice for real life. such as i like debating over topics that i feel strong in... but i would rank myself as a killer bee...
ps i may not of won any minds to my points but i got it where nobody wants to argue with me so i guess that makes me a winner right?

I think the point is not to "win" or be right, but to debate without personally attacking your opponent, without relying on other logical fallacies, without using old, tired, defeated arguments, and without refusing to admit when you are wrong. Following that, you might be wrong in every debate you go into, but I'd still consider you to be a good debater.

That being said, it doesn't hurt to be right, and a good debater should be able to stand his/her ground. I rarely ever say, "I'm not going to put up with your attacks on me" because, generally speaking, I can deflect nonsensical personal attacks. The worst are those who essentially say, "I am Great and you aren't."

wow thats not a personal attack? i may fondal with some of my thoughts but im not that bad of a debater. i dont give up and its probably because im a christian and i cant get past the point of telling people because god says soo. and thats why i think people dont want to debate with me good sir

I'd like to think I'm an adept debater, but most of my 'debating' consists of sterilizing the conflict into a logical syllogism and letting my opponent's argument self-destruct. Then I have to teach them just how it self-destructed, which is another, more difficult task entirely.
