| Untrained Fodder | So, how do YOU define crass behavior? Is it crass to check a woman out? How about telling her she is hot? How about saying "nice tits"? Where is the line between being open about sexual interest and just being rude? Clean toe caps and a filthy mouth! Low morals and high morale! |

| It really depens on who you're dealing with, and what the situation is. If you're tippin on four fours (sorry, I just had to... means getting drunk on fourties), thats a completely different situation from going to one of those formal parties. But I don't ever say "nice tits" to anyone... that just sounds stupid. Also, I can say to my girlfriend, "damn check yo dadunkadunkdunk", but I'd never say that to some stranger . |

| Retired | It does all depend on the who, where, etc. I've had coworkers and guy friends tell me in an FYI kind of way that I'm hot and I like that :-) But if they make a coment about body parts I am very uncomfortable and feel it is very rude. BUT, again, it's who it's coming from and my comfort level with them. If I wear something that shows off my figure, and a guy eyes me appreciatively and makes a (non-crude) comment, I take it as a compliment if he's someone I know. My boss once called me into his office for no reason. I said "what did you need?" He said "to watch you walk out". I was wearing his favorite suit that apparently was flattering to my backside. I didn't fear real harrassment from him, so I thought it was funny! But "nice tits"? That would get a guy a verbal beating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "...with like-minded people one cannot discuss. | I think its more crass for people to get offended and sue then it is for the person that said soemthing "crass" you know what I mean? Einstein's "Theory of Relativity" is still being challenged to this day, but by consensus Global Warming is a fact... that's REAL science at work, why didn't Albert just go that route? |

| Definition: [adj] (of persons) so unrefined as to be lacking in discrimination and sensibility Source So it depends on how one defines sensibility as well. War is Peace Freedom is Slavery Ignorance is strength Harness the power of Ingsoc, then you can capture someone killed the year before |

| Retired | Main Entry: crass Etymology: Latin crassus thick, gross 1 a : GROSS 6a; especially : having or indicating such grossness of mind as precludes delicacy and discrimination b : being beneath one's dignity <crass concerns of daily life> c -- used as a pejorative intensifier <crass flattery> <crass propaganda> 2 : guided by or indicative of base or materialistic values <crass commercialism> <crass measures of success> http://www.miriamwebster.com/cgi-bin/dicti...crass&x=18&y=10 The underlined portion is how I was using the word in a PM that caused Bugs to start this topic. FYI, Bugs, the word is not archaic. It is commonly used. One of many sources: this month's Time magazine "...with like-minded people one cannot discuss. With like-minded people one can only participate in a church service, and you know how I feel about church services." Ayaan Hirsi Ali |

| Playful | Subjective term. If I say 'nice movement in taht burqua' in Islamabad, I would probably have 5 brothers trying to kill me on my neck. If I say 'nice ass' in a strip bar, I would get a smile and applause (not for me, but in agreement from the other spectators). But in normal, western society, I don't think there is ever a good reason to use 'crass' remarks, unless you use it in an insulting way. (since it probably won't get you any closer to her). General terms work best (you look good/hot), as mia said, since they also show your respect for the person (you dont have to HAVE respect for the person, but it makes them think you have -grin-). |

| Would it be considered crass for a son to defame his namesake at his funeral? I think it is. Ronald P. Reagan is a true jackass, or, crass is another way to say it. "Study the Constitution. Let it be preached from the pulpit, proclaimed in legislatures, and enforced in courts of justice." -- Abraham Lincoln |

| Retired | I would definitely say that would be crass, but how did he do that? What did he say that you feel defamed his father? "...with like-minded people one cannot discuss. | Retired | Yes, and in the south, a lady does not give one her measurements over the internet. ;-). It most certainly is crass. I gave you an excellent description of myself and "proportional figure" is quite enough for the "dimensions" category. LIVE WITH IT! ;-) "...with like-minded people one cannot discuss. PLEASE WRITE 'MIA IS NOT CRASS' ON THE BLACKBOARD 100 TIMES. THEN WRITE "IT IS NONE OF MY BUSINESS" 100 TIMES TOO. THIS IS NOT A DEBATEABLE ISSUE. IT IS MY PERSONAL INFORMATION. DROP IT, PLEASE. "...with like-minded people one cannot discuss. With like-minded people one can only participate in a church service, and you know how I feel about church services." I'm just going to leave it at that because I see that you are simply asserting your right to privacy. Please understand, I did not mean to offend or harass, I'm simply interested in human behavior, especially about, well, you get the idea, right? Why people think revealing information in a medium such as this that would be obvious in a real world encounter is an invasion of privacy is something that intrigues me. Why people kill intrigues me. Why people are morons intrigues me. Does that make any sense? Why people consider one thing rude and something else prefectly acceptable intrigues me. Clean toe caps and a filthy mouth!
