| The dingos! Posts: 4,526 | Night Owls Do we have any resident night owls? If you're a night owl, why? Why is the night so much better than the day? For me, I feel like sleep equates to a waste of time with all of the caffienated products I have at my disposal. I know there can't be many like me - there are 4 people online right now :) |

It's 5:30pm right now, which makes it so late, it's actually early in WI. ![]() I used to think decreasing your amount of sleep gave you more time to do things, but that logic's fallacious for a few reasons. 1) You're less efficient on less sleep 2) Not sleeping enough leads to premature aging, which defeats the purpose 3) You can always make your sleeping productive through practicing lucid dreaming fushigi "What truth endures beneath the flaming stream?" -- A Volcano, Bartolome de Las Casas, Inferno de Marsaya, 1536 |

I've always been someone who feels more alert and energetic at night. Probably be better off as a morning person, but just ain't. In the 12 years since my body still hasn't truly readjusted, but I've gotten to where I can finally go to sleep around midnight. | Paladin Location: Narnia Posts: 4,277 | I think that eventually I conditioned myself to sleep until about noon and stay up until about three in the morning. I used to stay out with my friends until three and I used to schedule my classes in the afternoon. And now, even though neither of those things are particularly applicable any more, I still have the habit. Oh, and I used to stay up to watch Adult Swim when I wasn't out. BTW, did you all know that sleep deprivation is actually effective as an anti-depressant for 60% of patients? Sleep deprivation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I know I feel better (emotionally, at least) when I only get a few hours' sleep. Of course, caffeine does the exact same thing for me. | Posts: 3,018 | Wait a second.. are you sure? Wiki- Lack of sleep may result in: ... * Clinical depression ... Edit** Yet later it says.. As a treatment for depression Recent studies show sleep deprivation has some potential in the treatment of depression. About 60% of patients, when sleep-deprived, show immediate recovery, with most relapsing the following night. The incidence of relapse can be decreased by combining sleep deprivation with medication [26]. Incidentally, many tricyclic antidepressants happen to suppress REM sleep, providing additional evidence for a link between mood and sleep [27]. Similarly, tranylcypromine has been shown to completely suppress REM sleep at adequate doses. I don't know what to believe. :[ Powerful.. magical.. e-e-e-eevil.. |

I think using sleep deprivation to treat depression is better for bipolar types than clinically depressed people. Anyway, it works for me. When I feel the anxiety and doldrums kicking in, I just stay up until 4am, force myself to wake up at 7am, and voila! No more depression. | Igneous Magma Posts: 438 | "Sleep Deprivation, the cause of and solution to all of lifes problems" Not getting any sleep is all well and good if you just lay around all day and use the computer. But driving or doing manual labor....It's not fun to be sleep deprived. I've almost run off the road a few times, and had my life saved by rumble strips. I made the decision to get more sleep, and while I haven't noticed a change in my mood, my cognitive behavior is certainly more sharp when rested. -Chris "I guess we are the people our parents warned us about." |

To me, a normal morning is waking up at 730 (My daughter wakes me up) If I had it my way I wouldnt wake up until 9 am. My first appts in a normal work week are at 10 am so I usually leave the house at 9. Except tomorrow I have a 930 which sucks I would have to leave by 845 which is going to force me to wake up at 715 :( I normally go to bed between 12 midnight and 1am. I normally start my paperwork at 10 pm so then after that, I prepare for the next day and then mess around online. |

| Igneous Magma Posts: 332 | I'm normally a night person. When I was in school, I regularly went to sleep at 3AM and woke up at 7. Just the way I rolled. At one point I experimented with polyphasic sleep, which is an idea I picked up from Seinfeld. Basically, the gig is, you sleep 30 minutes every 4 hours. It actually works, too -- I felt more energetic, I got all my personal projects done, I was never groggy when I woke up. It's great if you can get passed the first week, which is utter hell. If it wasn't for the fact that everyone else in the world runs on a different clock, I would have done that continuously forever. |

| Igneous Magma Posts: 438 | Well its' 2:45am. I think its safe to say whenever I need to get up early, I can't get to sleep. Whenever I don't' need to, I get tired at 10pm. Murphy's Law at its best. -Chris "I guess we are the people our parents warned us about." |
