"If we desire to insult, we must be able to repel it; if we desire to secure peace, one of the most powerful instruments of our rising prosperity, it must be known, that we are at all times ready for War."
George Washington, Annual Message, December 1793

"Let us recollect that peace or war will not always be left to our option; that however moderate or unambitious we may be, we cannot count upon the moderation, or hope to extinguish the ambition of others."
Alexander Hamilton

The Second Coming by Yeats
Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the center cannot hold
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned

Samuel Adams:
"A general dissolution of principles and manners will more surely overthrow the liberties of America than the whole force of the common enemy. While the people are virtuous they cannot be subdued; but when once they lose their virtue then will be ready to surrender their liberties to the first external or internal invader."

Also "Iron rusts from disuse; water loses its purity from stagnation... even so does inaction sap the vigor of the mind." by Da Vinci as well.

Americans have different ways of saying things. They say 'elevator', we say 'lift'... they say 'President', we say 'stupid psychopathic git.

People are more violently opposed to fur than leather because it's safer to harass rich women than motorcycle gangs.

Recently, my personal advisors have been telling me to go to America. Actually, people have been walking up to me in the street and telling me to sod off, but that's the same thing, isn't it?

G. Gordon Liddy? There's the whole story right there.

Well, it's not as if his personality negates the truth in that statement.

Here's one I just crafted...

A Conservative is a person that feel he owes a great debt to God, a debt he proposes to pay off by saccrificing your liberties.

"It is my right to be uncommon...if I can; I seek opportunity...not security. I do not wish to be a kept citizen, humbled and dulled by having the state look after me. I want to take the calculated risk; to dream and to build, to fail and to succeed. I refuse to barter incentive for a dole. I prefer the challenges of life to the guaranteed existence; the thrill of fulfillment to the stole calm of utopia. I will not trade freedom for beneficence nor my dignity for a handout. I will never cower before any master nor bend to any threat. It is my heritage to stand erect, proud, and unafraid; to think and act for myself; enjoy the benefits of my creations and to face the world boldly and say, This I have done, and this is what it means to be an American."

Dean Alfrange

"To be governed is to be watched, inspected, directed, indoctrinated, numbered, estimated, regulated, commanded, controlled, law-driven, preached at, spied upon, censured, checked, valued, enrolled, by creatures who have neither the right nor the wisdom nor the virtue to do so. To be governed is to be, at every operation and at every transaction, taxed, stamped, registered, numbered, counted, noted, measured, assessed, authorized, licensed, admonished, prevented, forbidden, corrected, reformed, punished. It is, under pretext of public utility, and in the name of the general interest, to be placed under contribution, fleeced, drilled, extorted from, exploited, monopolized, squeezed, hoaxed, robbed; then, at slightest resistance and first word of complaint, to be sacrificed, betrayed, harassed, repressed, disarmed, hunted down, clubbed, abused, fined, sold, and, to crown it all, to be outraged, ridiculed, mocked, derided, dishonored. THAT is government; that is its justice, that's its morality."

Pierre-Joseph Proudhon

And again, quotes provided by The Architecture of Modern Political Power

Actually I dont know if the Caesar quote is an urban legend or real. I've heard it before, but I've never seen it on official texts. Anyone got any clarification or sources for its origins? (naturally in Latin only)
Any quote from that long ago hell, any time before there was a recorded press (and even after), is most likely made up or heavily romanticised. As history teachers have told me over the years, its not that they said is, its that they would say it.

Umm, that seems like a perfectly reasonable statement, unless you think that a lump of rich soil is capable of compassion.

Heres a list of good Napoleonquotes, especially favorite ones in bold.

"A Constitution should be short and obscure."
"A man will fight harder for his interests than for his rights. "
"A true man hates no one. "
"Death is nothing, but to live defeated and inglorious is to die daily. "
"England is a nation of shopkeepers. " To which inevitably come a reply "France is a nation of", use your imagination.
"History is a set of lies agreed upon. " oddly enough, given to me by a history teacher.
"I have only one counsel for you - be master."
"In politics stupidity is not a handicap."
"Men are Moved by two levers only: fear and self interest. "
"Music is the voice that tells us that the human race is greater than it knows. "
"Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence."
"The best way to keep one's word is not to give it. "
"The French complain of everything, and always. "
"War is the business of barbarians. "
"Women are nothing but machines for producing children." have to add now that italics means that I do not in any way agree with it

Im guessing that you are being sarcastic, since most of your posts are good.

but if not..

If thats the case, then are you going to run up your credit cards before you die, burn your house down, and crash your car?

No? Why not? sure itll harm your family, but what do you care? youre dead.

I'm not saying that I don't care now what will happen to my family and won't do whatever I can to ensure their welfare, but that after I die I will be incapable of caring, and I'm pretty sure thats what shrike is saying (unless thats not, in which case i apologize.)
