While this thread is back, I just want to point out one thing.

Bias is not an adjective.

The word is biased. It really irritates me when people spell words the way they hear them in conversations, and when people in conversations don't speak clearly, thereby perpetuating this peeve of mine. For the recored, the state of being innocent is innocence; not "innocents".

Actually, come to think of it, bias can be an adjective, but it doesn't mean what people use it to mean, so my righteous indignation still stands.
How can bias be an adjective?

These malapropisms drive me nuts. The one I saw today was somebody said they were speaking "off the cusp." I ask you, what the hell is that? It's off the cuff, people!

And it's all of a sudden, not all of the sudden. It isn't a specific sudden that has occurred, one that you wre expecting and so can differentiate from all the other suddens!

Gah! I'm . . .choking on my own rage, here!

Umbrellas.

God, I hate them. They’re just such a clumsy invention, and there are ALWAYS people who can’t handle them in the wind and end up flailing them all over the place. Living in Scotland, there’s barely a week goes by when I don’t get stabbed in the face by some clumsy idiot’s umbrella spokes.

Then of course you get the people who insist on angling the umbrella against the weather, which, with the amount of horizontal rain Scotland gets, means you have pedestrians walking around with sheets of canvas in front of their faces. Yeah, being able to see where you're going is overrated anyway; especially when in a busy street and wielding a huge, pointed implement.

Then to cap it all, you get the men who are insecure with their masculinity and have to carry a HUGE golf umbrella, under which you could fit an entire family, but under which there is only ever one man, since the men who buy them are invariably lonely and single. Newsflash: All umbrellas are for pussies; carrying a bigger one doesn't make you look manly; it just draws attention to the fact that you're afraid of a little water and annoys the hell out of people who believe that the width of a city street should not be taken up by one man and his insecurities.

Man, I never realised how much I HATE umbrellas.

Fart, I just realized I left my umbrella at the Dr the other day.

Dammit, I spent enough there already.....

OK, I like umbrellas and until you experience rain in your hairspray or makeup running down your face you can't understand.

Everything after the word "guys" is redundant. :) What you want is guys that are good at concealing their thoughts.

Oh, and I hate when people characterize all men as sex maniacs.

I hate irony, too.

And post-modernist self-reference.

Ummm....I don't characterize all men as sex maniacs, but it's seems that most "Volconvic" men are.

Oh, and people who put the American flag next to a Confederate flag. Worse yet, someone who has an "American Patriot" bumper sticker next to a Confederate bumper sticker. The Confederacy was anti-American, people.

While I'm here, as an update on the malapropisms peeve, I saw a quote on the forums today which had been "edited for relevants". So irritating.

Hehe, I'm not sure if you're just trying to annoy Bacon with the "when" typo, but I agree.

Nah, it was just a typo. So, it really peeves me when I overlook my own typos. Aw well.

Did pirates ever actually meet ninjas, or was it the Samurai?

We had the same discussion at the Commedy Central forums, but that point was never cleared up.

Literally? I'm fairly certain ninjas would have never interacted with pirates, but samurai would have. Whether or not ninjas ever existed is arguable. Pending they did exist, tthey definitely didn't exist in the same way we think of them today.

That being said, Pirates > ninjas
