Just one? Well, tomorrow will be different but I'll nominate anything from the meat of Pink Floyd's Animals. Not pigs on the wing I or II. Just cause they're relevent.

I think you'll find a LOT of people would nominate "Imagine" by John Lennon.
    Eww, I wouldn't.

+1, I would say the greatest of the era would be a Led Zepplin selection, though, which one would certainly be debateable.

FWIW Im partial to the guitar riffs on "whole lotta love"
zepplin is overrated. They're good, but too many people see them as the greatest band from their era.

btw - I'm gonnna leave you -> my favorite song of theirs

Not sure why this came to mind first
(Maybe because I laugh every time I hear it ):
Ok Dan, so we all know where you lost your virginity. Wasn't it a bit cramped? :)

For all those old guys, and uncharacteristicly musically tasteful youth who happen to listen to and like Classical Rock, I'm talking 60's and 70's here....

What is your favorite song, and by what band?

Mine has to be, without a doubt, American Pie by Don McLean
Favorite song by a particular band is different than Greatest Song of all time. There are many "great songs" but as for favorites. This is merely one for me.

Some of you folks won't probably recognize this one, but it did appear on "Imagine" titled " Give Me Some Truth" Originally released in in 1969 in Twickenham UK under "Gimme Some Truth" It found its way on to several "bootleg" albums.

    Give Me Some Truth
    John Lennon

I'm sick and tired of hearing things from uptight-short sighted-arrow minded hypocritics
All i want is the truth
    Just give me some truth

I've had enough of reading things by nuerotic-pyschotic-pig headed politicians
All i want is the truth
    Just give me some truth

No short haired-yellow bellied son of tricky dicky is gonna mother hubbard soft soap me
With just a pocketful of hope
    Money for dope
    Money for rope

I'm sick to death of seeing things from tight lipped-condescending -mommies little chauvinists
All i want is the truth
    Just give me some truth

I've had enough of watching scenes of schizophrenic - ego - centric - paranoic - prima - donnas
All i want is the truth
    Just give me some truth

I write: THANK YOU JOHN because that says all I ever want to say to many, many people!

I believe Touch of Gray" by Jerry Garcia wasn't released ntil the 90's. Just a POI.

Just because they wouldn't let you be the lead gutarist...sounds like somones bitter.

I know your type. You think, "I'll just get me a costume, rip off the neighborhood kids." Next thing you know, you've got a jet shaped like a skull with lasers on the front!

I just spent a couple of days in a hotel in Italy. The breakfast room was staffed by a jolly, pretty young Albanian woman (plenty of Albanians in Italy these days). One morning she had music going in the back -- rocking classics by The Beatles (Twist and Shout, Back in the USSR, etc.) -- just loud enough for her to skip to as she carried plates around and whatnot.

At one point somebody from the front desk stuck his head in, laughed and asked her what she was listening to back there. She said "I don't know. Some band called The Beatles. Aren't they great?!"

We've been stuffed to the gills with The Beatles these past 40 years, but here was this kid who was apparently listening to them for pretty well the first time. I found this scene somehow moving.
