To Behold the Truth

Rate this Entry
The matter of seeing God can be understood by the analogy of a lover who is so desperate to behold the beloved that his own self does not exist. Only the beloved is everywhere.

There is a popular folk tale of Punjab here, in which the lover "Majnun" (the name went on to mean "gone case" or "crazy") he fell in love with "Laila" the beloved and such was his state that in his love for her he went from riches to rags. Lost all common sense, and would see the image of his beloved in all creation.

The Ideal believer aspires for God in this way. Most believers are expectedly not like that. Todays believers will cherish their eyes more than beholding the Truth.

God doesn't want us to see him and lose our eyes btw. It is not something that emanates from the Beloved. It is a thing for lovers only.

Again it's the sort of thing that if you wanted to know the Truth so badly that you would be willing to give anything for it. That one moment would take your sight away but what good were the eyes that denied God anyway?

Blindness, thus is much better when it comes with the knowledge of God.
