God doesn't want me!

Rate this Entry
We've all heard that the evidence of the Christian Gods existence is all around us waiting to be "seen." Lots of people like me look around and see nothing but natural processes and random chance. Billions more look around and see evidence of Allah or Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. All these billions are doomed to eternal death, or eternal hellfire depending on who you ask.

Let's assume for a moment that the Christian God really does exist. He knows (omniscient) exactly what it would take to convince me and all the other billions that He exists and He's surely capable of convincing me (omnipotent) and everyone else but He doesn't. Why not? Why does the Christian God withhold eternal salvation from billions of people around the world by not making the effort to convince each and every one of His existence and message?

I'm sure you've all heard the typical Christian reasoning that if He revealed Himself unambiguously to the entire world we would all become "robots" and our free will would be subverted. They must be thinking it would take God surfing down from heaven on a wave of light accompanied by a 1000 piece orchestra of angels. I'm thinking it wouldn't take anything so overt. How many Christians that you know of were only convinced when they talked to a burning bush for instance. One?

Most Christians are convinced by nothing more than a chance occurance or a spectacular scene while on a hike in the woods. In other words, God should easily be able to convince everyone on Earth of His existence, each in their own private way. No angelic orchestra or lightboard required. So why doesn't He?

The most obvious answer is that He doesn't exist but let's approach this as if He does exist and is at this moment watching me write this post. What is He thinking, why isn't He convincing me right now that He exists? Doesn't He love me enough? Doesn't He want me?

Don't you think it might be time we moved on from an obsession with what might have been a natural idea back in the First Century but doesn't really fit our way of thinking now? As I've said elsewhere, if a politician and slaughter-expert like Julius Caesar could be voted into divinity, that was clearly a very different world. What I read in the New Testament is a deep and very interesting examination of how each individual (the least of these little ones and so on) is what they reacted to as 'God' - vital, holy and all. Anyway, makes a lot more sense to me than a lot of fundamentalist logic-chopping and letter-worshipping.

I have to congratulate the man who invented christianity because he had really thought it through.
He completely covered every question with an answer that is logical only if you were raised as a believer.
The free will card can be used in almost any situation.
If i had a time machine i would definitely go to his time and congratulate him.

Peter, it sounds more like you don't want Him. "Most Christians are convinced by nothing more than..." How do you know what "most Christians" think? Anyways, I don't have all the answers, but I think it all comes down to "faith." People personally decide through a series of tangible and intangible acts on where their faith lies. I believe in Jesus, and I have seen Him work through others and myself. If God came down and "convinced" you without any freewill thoughts of your own, how would that not be like controlling a robot?

@laza666, There isn't one "man" who "invented" Christianity. It is a collection of books written by man, but inspired by God. Google it.

Peace guys, I mean no offense by anything I have written.

People are not very smart. They take drugs that destroy their livers and immune systems simply because some idiot freak (usually called 'Doctor'} calls them medicine. They inject deadly diseases into their bodies because they are told that these 'vaccines' are good for them. They rip their bodies open to insert everything from silicon to pig's hearts to cadaver (dead people) items because they are told they will look prettier or live longer. Capitalism gorges on stupidity.

Seriously, do you expect such a mindless populace to understand their Creator? Show an uncivilized being a flashlight, mirror, lighter, camera...you name it, and they will think you are a god. Imagine what the Creator is up against when He considers showing himself to His creation...it's what myth and superstition is born of.

Now, with man's intelligence one blip higher on the scale (still over 15 billion years of learning behind God), if God returned to the earth today, man would cry out "ALIEN INVASION!" And why not? After all, God IS an alien (not of this earth, or extraterrestrial). And God's technology is so advanced...well, it STILL looks like magic.

Go ahead, continue to show God how little mankind has advanced in intelligence...I'm sure He's almost ready to have some intercourse.

@Ozzy The Bible is a place where all those books are gathered into one book, i was referring to that book as the "invention".

Who is to say that God needs a high degree of belief for a meaningful relationship? Moreover, why would God need you to know him for a relationship to occur? I can understand why humans need to to know each other first, but for God this is unfounded. Also, do you need to have explicit knowledge of him at all times? I bet: nope.

This could apply to people who never met the Lord:
