      Odd how even scientists misunderstand the term and its purpose. Oh well, he's a great popularizer of science. Probably my favorite. And an atheist.

      I am with Neil. I am amused at the deep need some atheists have to force those who do not agree with them into their "camp". It reminds me of people who insist there are no bisexuals, that you are either homosexual or heterosexual.

      Some people might be able to be perfectly agnostic, in a 50-50 balance, but it is tough to always sit on a fence. Balances usually topple, as people employ probability, whether realizing it or not, plus, beyond that ‘math’ form, it happens in practice, in everyday life, because it’s tough to be half one way and half another, so even the slightest sway could lead to theism or atheism.

      The one, perhaps, ‘poverty’ of agnosticism is to think that the ‘God’ vs ‘no God’ chances are equi-probable.

      — Byron’s Golden Mean —

      Let us have wine, lovers, song, and laughter,
      Water, chastity, prayer the day after.

      (I would add…)
      Such we’ll alternate the rest of our days;
      On the average, we’ll make Hereafter!

      Neil is big on science but not especially on ‘God’, although open to the idea; so, he is not a religious scientist, which indicates a leaning away from theism.

      As someone who rarely bothers arguing about religion anymore, I can certainly sympathize with his desire to avoid that morass and focus instead on things that are more tangible.

    I know this is a simplistic subject, but it still deserves fresh debate. As a Christian, I often make the argument that there is absolutely no Biblical foundation for ghosts, haunted places or...
