A Palestinian suicide bomber kills nine people at a Tel Aviv restaurant in an act of "self-defence", says Hamas. A Palestinian suicide bomber has killed nine people along with himself and injured about 50 more in Tel Aviv. The bombing, which came during the festival of Passover, was the first suicide attack in Israel since January. The militant group Islamic Jihad said it was behind the restaurant blast, but Israel said it held the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority responsible. However, Hamas, which has been keeping a truce with Israel, described the attack was an act of self-defence. Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas condemned the bombing, saying it ran counter to Palestinian interests.

Since the start of April, Israeli forces say they have fired more than 2,000 artillery shells into the northern Gaza Strip.

A youthful Islamic Jihad activist blew himself up outside a crowded falafel bar in Tel Aviv yesterday, killing at least nine civilians and wounding about 50. Samer Samih Hamad, from the West Bank village of Arakeh, near the pre-1967 border, is believed to be one of the youngest suicide bombers ever dispatched by a Palestinian group. In a video "living will", he dedicated the operation to the thousands of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails. Dressed in black with a yellow headband inscribed with Koranic verses, he warned in a clear, firm voice: "There are many other bombers on the way." Relatives said he had completed high school. But he looked more like a boy.

it doesn't speak anything good about the "leaders" on both sides of this issue.. despite all the developments, from arafat's death, to abbas, to the palestinian elections, very little real progress has been made. just more of the same 'ol tit-for-tat violence.

honorable israelis bombing palestinians in their sleep and palestinians bombing people while they eat lunch or travel to work.

I saw a news story on ABC today about this and another interesting tib bit was reported, some Western nations plan to cut of ties with the new Palestinian government calling the bombing a terrorest act, and that means all economic aid as well. Meanwhile Iran got on news and said they are going to send millions in aid money (and goods) to the Palestinains. (keeping in mind they got new missles that can reach the Jewish state with ease). Will that force the Jewish leaders to attack Iran to stop the so-called terrorism done to revenge other Jewish attacks. Hmm? Will the USA step in because Iran "supports terrorism:? This war near at hand - over that incident? What would other arab nations do if a war between Iran and Israel breaks out, and the USA "takes sides".

You can't really target small, mobile rocket launchers and the Palestinians don't have any heavy guns as far as I know. You can only target roughly where they WERE when they fired their possibly one and only rocket.

According to the BBC story that was pretty much the reason for the tank bombardment. But the question of who fired the first shot has been forgotten and no longer matters to anyone. Unless a third party steps in this will never end unless both sides exterminate each other.
