| Volcanic Erupter Posts: 8,922 | Gas prices on the rise for summer Already the cost for gas at the pumps have gone up an average of 15 cents per gal. The government reported that the cost for gasoline will surge during the summer months. Local costs related to refineries are to blame for the price hike the government said, www.msn.com Following are my comments not found in the offical news story. Here where I live we are paying $3.oo per gal. The cheaper stations might be less the five cents cheaper, the projected surge in price might be a all-time high for USA markets. The news did not report that the government had any plans to do anything to crub or prevent that projected price increase for the consumers. |

| Igneous Magma Posts: 416 | During the past week I've received two emails advocating the boycott of Exxon and Mobil until the end of the year. Supposedly the idea of a Coca Cola executive, the boycott would force the two oil companies to lower prices. I pointed out to my friends that oil companies routinely sell gasoline to each other, usually when they have no refinery to service a geographic area. I learned this from a documentary on gasoline production and distribution. If the boycott became effective, Shell (whose refineries are at full capacity) would satisfy the increased demand by purchasing gas from Exxon and Mobile. Nonetheless, I thought a boycott would have a positive effect because it would rattle the arrogance of the oil industry. I once worked in the industry in Alaska and oil executives are in a class by themselves when it comes to arrogance. Last edited by westcoastdog; Apr 11, 2006 at 02:22 pm. |

The general public thinks in terms of gasoline. The wholesale industry thinks in terms of fuel. The trucking industry doesn't use gasoline. We use diesel fuel, which for two years now, the cost per gallon has been running side by side of a gallon of premium gasoline. This translates into higher prices for everything trucked to market. This is simply evident in your local supermarket. We didn't arrive at this sorry state in one day and we won't get out of it in a day either. To quote Betty Davis: "Strap yourselves in boys, we're in for a bumpy ride." And there ain't jack sh*t you can do about it except quit using the stuff where possible. | Volcanic Erupter Posts: 8,922 | in my state they also added a sin tax on top of the normal taxes ( to prevent smog by making gas too expensive to drive around for non-business purposes - they thought). they have the power to remove all taxes from gasoline. The good thing is that the cost factor will encourage (even force) Americans to seek alternative fuels or use vehicles that do not use gasoline. Like our one poster who got out his bike. If that happens then we would automatically shoe in a solution for the global warming problem and smog, and help to reduce the risk of cancer. The gas companies are promoting us to find new forms of transportation other then by using their products via the rise in costs. Which in the long run will be great for the environment. Plus reducing the number of future oil spills in the oceans. |
