US Congress scraps cotton subsidy

Quote:
The US Congress has approved the scrapping of major subsidies to the cotton industry, in a move that could help producers in the developing world.
The administration agreed in December to implement a World Trade Organisation (WTO) ruling against the subsidies, but it needed congressional authorisation.

Brazil, which brought the case, said government help for American cotton farmers distorted the global market.

The subsidies included incentives to buy cotton from domestic farmers.

I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.

Sounds good to me. If people want to subsidize cotton production in the U.S. they can donate to a charity or buy "Made in U.S.A" products.

actually, you mean borrow more money, not reduce taxes.. all of these "tax cuts" have been funded by borrowing - no different than extending your line of credit then maxing the credit card out.

the money should go towards paying down the debt. and maybe when we actually get a balanced budget (the miracle that that would be), then we can talk about cutting taxes accompanied by spending cuts.

hope for america...
