| Pragmatist Location: UK London Posts: 1,979 | Iran warns west over nuclear row Any move to involve the UN Security Council in the row over Iran's nuclear programme would mean the end of diplomacy, a top Iranian official says. The warning, issued by chief Iranian nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani, follows an agreement by key powers to report Tehran to the council. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/mid...st/4665086.stm I wouldn't recommend sex, drugs and insanity for everyone, but its always worked for me. I'd expect the UN would endorse sanctions, but unless these are unusually effective all they do is delay the military option. Et semel emissum volat irrevocabile verbum. Raúl M. Núñez Sheriff |

| Skeptical Patriot Posts: 7,795 | Now THIS is the perfect opportunity to do what we used to do well, lead a large group of nations in showing Iran the world doesn't want them to have nuclear weapons, especially in light of todays news that Iran bought blueprints on building weapons on the black market. However, I think we have squanderd a lot of that leadership clout in the past few years. |

If the military confrontation takes place, Iran would have no chance to compete, at all. It makes me to belive Iran wants to lead Islamic states into a sort of "global Islamic uprising" against U.S. , Westerners and/or its supporters and allies. Regardless of these goals, Iran can not dictate the rules for checking and/or inspecting its nuclear developement along with its capabilities, under actual political agenda Teheran represents as of today, at least.

Whoever is going to get profits out of Chinese alleged domination in near 2050, it is going to be Russia (again).

This really is the key to understanding the whole predicament. We keep electing the "Lesser Evil" thinking it is the correct course of action, and in the long run, all it really gets us is conflict. The irony, of course, is the fact that the President realizes that oil is in limited supply, he is making plans to cut ties to Middle Eastern oil, (as are others) yet for some reason he can't do the math, and figure out that Iran needs to have contingency plans as well. Where are the Middle Eastern countries we deny nuclear power going to generate revenue, or power when people stop buying their oil, or they run out? I guess Bush, and the NeoCons must be comfortable putting them into a bad bargaining position for any potential future negotiations with his shortsightedness. Again, our foreign policy pidgeonholes an entire region by refusing to let them exercise self determination.
