U.S. Border Patrol trains Mexican agents

http://www.eluniversal.com.mx/miami/16286.html

Quote:
LA TRINITARIA, Chiapas - A U.S. Border Patrol search and rescue team is teaching officials at Mexico´s southern border how to help migrants in danger after sneaking into the country from Central America, a U.S. official said.

The team of a dozen U.S. agents is leading a two-week training program for members of Grupo Beta, Mexico´s special migrant-protection force, and other government officials in the Chiapas state town of La Trinitaria, near the border with Guatemala.

"This training is part of a binational commitment to look at any and all possibilities to prevent the loss of human life," U.S. Border Patrol spokesman Salvador Zamora said Tuesday.

Tens of thousands of illegal migrants, many of them from Central America, enter Mexico´s southern border on their way to the United States.

Mexico´s National Migration Institute said it deported more than 100,000 illegal migrants from January to October. More than 6,500 were rescued or given medical assistance in the same period.

After we read the article posted above, are we supposed feel good all over?

Reality check.

Remember how the Republicans passed their screw the poor, elderly and needy bill just before Christmas? Remember at the same time they passed the enrich the rich bill.

Did you know that this past Christmas season it was the lowest in charity giving?

Did you know that the Republicans passed to the Senate H.R 4437 and if that language becomes law, we and our governement would be saying: Think well before you help the poor. Ask them if they're supposed to be here. If they aren't, and you help them, you could go to prison. Ditto if you help without asking.

Gotta love them Goddam compassionate Republicans.

And whilst we're at it, why don't we start courses on wall-climbing safety techniques for burglars/would-be burglars so that they can scale our walls, fences...etc. without falling and hurting themselves? Wouldn't that be nice? :)

What are you gibbering about, tb? Did you bother to read the article? Debate for once.

I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.

SOME Republicans are thinking that Mexico needs to clean up its own damn act:

For years we have been told about the Gulags of the Soviet Union, started by Josef Stalin. Millions went through them, in filth, poor nutrition and with the basic necessities, such as blankets, non-existent. With the fall of the Soviet Union, we thought these camps of human misery had been closed for good.

Sadly, this is not true. Similar camps have now been set up and populated by a government, with people they consider sub human and without redemption. And, just like the Soviet Union, this government complains about how their citizens are treated in other nations.

The new Gulags can now be found in Mexico. The degradation of the human spirit, body and soul, is now being levied upon illegal aliens from foreign nations by the Mexican government

Interesting story, and one I had never heard before. I agree with you, and I'm particularly glad Republicans are bringing this to light. At least we won't hear the right wingers crying about this being some lefty cause or some such nonsense.

The question NOW is why haven't we heard about this before?

I think I'll be sending a letter to Rep. Castle asking him to look into the matter. I haven't gotten a useless form letter from him for a long time.

And when did you change your name to Scrib?

Heehee!

But I hope the US Border Patrol gives the Mexicans they are training a firm lesson about how people ought to be treated. Why help 'em catch people if they are just gonna Gulag 'em?

Maybe that's the core of this whole issue. It is becoming obvious that, if that story is completely accurate, that Mexico has a shitload of people it doesn't care about or want. Maybe Fox is pissed off about us stopping the illegals because he sees the Rio Grande as his version of the Mariel boatlift.
It wouldn't surprise me a bit if the Mexicans are taught how to more effectively FIND these people, it won't be to help them. No overhead this way.
