I know I bear the pacifist label affixed to me by the NeoCons, but in person, I'm anything but a pacifist, or a "peace clown", and this guys actions speak volumes about his character in my opinion. I think I'd like to have a few beers with old Hugo some time. |

South American leaders seek for unity, that give them a political power in order to become a respected voice around the world. That is a very ambitious political and administartive enterprise. That would take some decades, though. There are some goods, merchandise, technology, ect. in U.S. possession that South America is looking for. U.S. needs to develope good relations and/or partnership with those guys, in order to get what we want, and trade to South America something in return. It is important to maintain stable relatiionship with those states, especially since China would bypass yet another level for its oil-related demands and/or needs, soon. I do not think U.S. considers any activity against H. Chavez. It would harm to U.S. policy. Whether "Exxon" complies with the Venezuelian governing body's demands or not, that "Exxon"s choice. It would not stop Venezuelian cargo (read : oil) to be shipped to U.S. |

Look what a mess Mexico is in with Pemex, all so Cardenas could ride the popularity wave for a few years. Same thing with Argentina after Juan Peron nationalized everything. | Best.Poster.Ever. Posts: 10 | Chavez might not be very popular with many, but like Milton Bradley, I got to hand it to him...he has really strong convictions/beliefs. First offering discount gas for some of the poorer residents of the US, and now this...Chavez has shown that he's prepared to be a strong leader and go by his own agenda. |
